    Drake 8k & Half-Marathon

Anybody running in either event tomorrow?

They clearly did not know how to handle packet pickup today. I waited in line longer then I will run tomorrow for the 8k. How do you run out of XL shirts year after year? My guess is that it is the most popular size so order more. When you register you get to say what size you want, that could help with orders too.

One more thing, do not punish the people that pre-registered. People that did not pre-register were brought inside the building, ahead of the probably 200 waiting in line for over an hour, to sign up, grab their things and then go. I suppose that will teach people to think ahead.

    Re: Drake 8k & Half-Marathon

Never had a problem w/ lines or packet pickup at Drake for the half before, I must get there later, probably after 5:OO, when the lines are gone....just walk down to the basement get the packet, then leave, usually parking spots are close by. They didn't send me a registration form this year.

    Re: Drake 8k & Half-Marathon

I dropped my wife off at 4:40. I came back after picking the kids up at daycare. By the time we were leaving pick place, it was 5:40 and there were still a ton of people waiting in line. A friend of mine was there at 4:00, he 'cheated' in the line ( I do not condone it!) and he was still there for 40 minutes! I guess they do not need to have the actual pickup right there on campus on 25th and Carpenter. Move it down a few blocks to where there is actually parking available!

I did not have this issue 2 years ago, maybe it was a one time thing but there were LOTS of angry people there this evening.

I always make sure to be there about 3:30 for packet pickup and stand right next to the door. I was one of the first in yesterday and when I came back outside it was a mess.

Another cluster? They still do not have times posted. Do you think the chip timers goofed up and lost all the data? I would also like to see them do something similar to Dam to Dam and color up the #'s based on projected minutes/mile. My first mile was 8:33, my last mile (.97) was 6:45. The rest of my miles were all in the 7:00 to 7:13 area.

This was for the 8k, I am building up for the Dam to Dam.

The reason I posted those times is because I wanted to show the difference in minutes per mile. I moved up in the pack before the race started. Some friends of mine stayed where they were, the fastest of that group got to the mile marker at 10:30! He is normally an 8 minute miler.

You should warm up more before the race, that is what your times tell me.

Since they do the 8k on the same course/start as the half, it is really hard to get a good first mile time. It is like Dam to Dam, if you can get that first 2 miles done in under 25 min, you are doing good.

Ok, yes, I understand - too crowded initially to run due to the amount of people - I think that is what you are saying.

I saw an older gentleman drop out of the race early-on yesterday and it looked like he was having heart problems - anyone see this or have an update? The ambulance came to his assistance. Veered off the course to stop and lean against a tree, and instead went down on his back and looked dazed.

I heard that too. I guess he is ok now in the hospital. Did I hear correctly that there were 2500 runners that started yesterday?

They announced 2,500 runners at the start of the race. I had five family members run the 8K. I was near the finish line of the 8K and I think I heard the people manning the computer say they had a virus. That may explain the times not being posted quickly.

Thanks for the info, www.fitnesssports.com always seems to be so good and so quick with their results.

So will the chip record 'actual' time, the time I crossed the start line? I believe it was at least 1 minute before I got to the start line, probably longer.

I didn't know this ahead of time but there was no start strip so they will probably go off of the gun for the start and the timing strip for the end. I didn't worry about how quick I got to the start line because I was assuming they would have a strip there.
