    Re: R.I.P. Pontiac

Wow, I've never had a Pontiac... but they've seemed like pretty decent cars overall, minus some in the 90's when quality almost everywhere seemed to be lacking.

I guess we'll probably keep seeing things like this until the economy turns around.

    Re: R.I.P. Pontiac

It's about time. Buick needs to go next. Chevrolet and Cadillac are the only names that mean anything and have any brand power.

Why GM has continued to waste money trying to have a half-dozen brands of vehicles I will never know. I suppose just further evidence that they are the most poorly managed company in the history of the world. Seriously, that's no lie. Look at their losses the last couple years.

Hopefully, this will be the first in a string of many positive changes so we can quit sending our tax dollars to Detroit to be poured down a drain.

    Re: R.I.P. Pontiac

Well, if they dump Saturn as well, then the Solstice and Sky are going to show up in Chevy showrooms as a new underpowered convertible.

They should have made this move much early, much like dumping Hummer.

    Re: R.I.P. Pontiac

I don't know why they can't do two brands like many of the successful foreign car companies. One entry level, one more high-end.

    Toyota/Lexus
    Honda/Acura
    Nissan/Infiniti
    VW/Audi

Works pretty well for these companies. There has to be operating efficiencies doing it this way, and only have 2 brands to advertise for surely helps with marketing.

What will the "older" people buy then?

Isn't Buick the only car make that designs the review mirror strong enough to hold the handicap parking placard?

    Re: R.I.P. Pontiac

I would like to thank Pontiac for two of the most reliable cars I've ever owned, my old '76 Grand Prix, what a boat and lasted 250,000+ miles and my '92 Grand AM that I gave to my brother who proceeded to trash it soon afterwards.

    I will miss you Pontiac!!!

    Re: R.I.P. Pontiac

Bummer. I had a Pontiac Grand Am through the first semester of my senior year at ISU. We had some good times in that car. Then, I got a Grand Prix. Its first major road trip was to Phoenix for the bowl game. Good times.

Well, id disagree with them not having anything... i like the G6, G8, and Solstice, but hopefully those can get rolled into chevy. I started with a 93 corsica, when that went up in flames (literally) i went to a 99 Cavalier, and a few years later went to an 05 pontiac grand am. Last fall I bought an 08 G6, and love it.

Of course, theyre holding onto chevrolet, buick, gmc, and cadillac. I think they shouldve cut GMC and Buick before they cut pontiac, or maybe merged Buick into Cadillac. What does GMC have that chevy doesnt, and especially since 90% of GMC is low mileage trucks and SUVs.

    Re: R.I.P. Pontiac

My first car that I bought was a '77 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. I have a lot of nostalgia for Olds. They chopped the Olds brand a few years ago and it was a good thing, and this Pontiac chop is a good thing too.

    Re: R.I.P. Pontiac

The old GTO was an absolute animal. That being said that brand hasn't done anything for me in a long time.

I'm with the crowd that it makes sense to have just Chevorlet and Caddilac.
