    Things turning around?

I know I may be a little optimistic... but with the return of CB could iowa state be looking at a possible ncaa berth in basketball, and a potential bowl game in football? (largely due to the degree of difficulty of their schedule)

That sure would be quite the turn around after a couple very disappointing seasons in each respective sport...

Easy now, don't put the cart in front of the horse. We were 2-10 in football and have not had a winning season in a while in basketball. It is a step in the right direction in basketball for sure.

Craig Brackins is back? This must mean we're going to a bowl game!

I've said all along CB was coming back. I'm also on record as saying HB will be coming to ISU.

I heard that immediately after the press conference, Craig walked over to JTS, picked up a hammer, and started bowling in the south endzone. Bo Williams is helping him, they will be done next Tuesday.

Not to fuel your fire but in 2007 Minnesota football was 1-11 for the season. In 2008 they were 7-6. My point being that just because we went 2-10 last year it does not mean that we have no chance at a decent season. When I look back at last year there are a couple things that I take away from it.
    1. The many, many penalties that we recieved (especially the personal fouls) did nothing but hold the team back.
    2. I counted 5 losses last year that we could have or should have won. The biggest of those being UNLV, Kansas, and Colorado. Winning those 3 games puts us a win away from a bowl game last year.
    3. I said from the start of last season (not on this board but among friends) that we were a very young team and although, as you can probably tell, I was always optimistic, in reality I did not expect that a team that young could succeed.

Basketball is harder to judge but Brackins coming back is a HUGE step forward. This team was also pretty young and I would like to think that the extra year has helped that.

Take all of this for what it is worth, but for every bit of bad news that comes our way there is also news that gives me hope and gets me excited about the next season.

I must thrive on this being a Cyclone fan and Cubs fan.

Yes, but inbetween the press conference and the construction project, he stopped in JP's office, tied up some loose ends on the coaching search. He then went to the Bergstom and worked out Arnuad in some rope drills.

Why stop there, why not predict ISU to win the Big 12 in football and basketball this year.

We won't be an NCAA tournament team next year, but we will be better. Craig is the foundation of McD's tenure here at ISU and I think he realizes that.

2003 football team won 2 games
2004 football team won 7 games

Why can't we rebound with a bowl game? We've done it before. I think we will

Which is why we will be bowling next year. Last time we were 2-10 we rebounded with a 7-5 record and a missed FG away from being North Champs. History has a way of repeating itself Also, Brackins coming back was like a large dose of Kool-Aid for me so I might be a little bit over optimistic right now.

Also, ISU was 2-10 in 2003 and in 2004 they almost made it to the Big 12 championship game ending with a 7-5 record. What did that team and Minnesota have in common? Same coach both years. That means we could be like Pelini having a better 1st year than his predecessor had his last year, or it could be like Gene and having a worse one than your predecessor. Hopefully Rhoads is like Pelini. WTF, did I just write that?
