Do you want a Cyclone as Head Coach?

If the speculation on a new coach is not correct, who would top your list? Two former Cyclones seem to have a big upside:

    Kevin Jackson, freestyle coach
    http://www.filahalloffame.com/KEVINJACKSON.html

    Joe Heskett, Asst Ohio State
Joe Heskett Biography - The Ohio State Buckeyes Official Athletics Site - OhioStateBuckeyes.com

I would like to have either of these guys..

I want someone who will get us a title again regardless of where they wrestled in college.

I want someone who is intense, I do not care if they wrestled for the franciscan sisters.

Who the hell cares where they wrestled? That doesn't make them an elite coach.

The driving force of every college wrestling team is its alumni, and if you don't have the exwrestlers on board with the hire, well we all saw how many years it took to recover with the Bobby Douglas years falling to an unthinkable 19th in the nation. I hope Pollard is smart enough to consult with a Jim Gibbons type before any hire.

You want to hire the "right" coach. I don't think Iowa ever regrets hiring a Cyclone named Dan Gable.

That being said, if you can hire a great coach and he happens to be an ISU Alum, what's wrong with that?

I thought he was an assistant to Nichols and therefore had an ISU tie. Not that I disagree he let's things get bad a few years.

It doesn't matter to me who it is. Just want the best coach available that wants to be at ISU.

Gable was hired as an asst to HC Gary Kurdlemeier, who won two national titles leading into Gable as Head Coach.

Ok. Still don't think they regret having promoted a nonHawkeye to the Head Coaching job.

No, was clarifying Gable NOT being hired as a head coach at Iowa. He was as assistant. Of course they have no regrets.

I want a coach who respects the program, has good recruiting skills and can push our guys to the next level. I don't care where he wrestled or is a coach now.

MoreCowbell- I agree with those qualities and I think Heskett and Jackson both have those credentials, plus are great Clone alums for the fans and former wrestlers to rally around.

I agree, and like them both. I think they would be popular choices. Sorry, the the Iowa arrogance can be hard to stomach. Just my opinion.
