    Summer Job Ideas

Anyone want to share what they are doing this summer around Ames. I know it is late, but have struck out with a few places and have no job for the summer yet. I would love to do anything finance or banking related, however I realize that might not be a possibility anymore. Any ideas or suggestions?

    Re: Summer Job Ideas

One of my friends literally applied to like 10 lower level jobs in various places around Ames and got no response from any of them. Good luck man. Might have to try Des Moines or the Ames surrounding area.

    Re: Summer Job Ideas

I worked for Ames P&R my entire time at ISU. Summers worked park maint - not that bad of a deal. Worked other programs like their volleyball leagues, rec center supervisor, theater tech year round.

15 years ago, but it was decent income and not the worst job you could have.

That actually may help his chances - alot cheaper to fill positions with temp and no-benefits workers than full timers.

    Re: Summer Job Ideas

I'll be taking classes and driving the bus this summer.

I would tell you to think about working for CyRide, but hours are kind of limited during the summer for non full-time drivers. It isn't a bad gig though if you want something to do in the fall as well. Almost $12 an hour (if you work 20+ hours). I'm not sure if they will be actively hiring for the summer either though . . . But they're are usually always hiring.

I believe the City of Ames already interviewed candidates over a month ago.

    Re: Summer Job Ideas

If your looking for any Job and not just something career related you can go to the Gateway Hotel and work Conference Services Set up, there are some late hours and long shifts but its not too bad and they are usually hiring. Also if you dont mind physical labor there is a company south of Ames called CRD Advisors they do crop research they hire a lot of summer help. You would be in a corn field most of the summer and you will work 7 days a week for about 3 weeks of the summer, but they are a great group of guys to work for.
