Would you rather be a star athlete or music star?

Both are pampered and paraded by the public. I think being a music star has more "life" per say, but I could be wrong. What would you guys rather be?

Re: Would you rather be a star athlete or music star?

Music star. Many athletes are near-crippled by the time they retire/get into their "golden years". I figure as a musician if I take it easy on the booze, lay off the smack and the rest of the drugs, and don't have a woman in every town that I happen to visit, my golden years should be relatively healthy. That, and if I'm good enough at making music, I could still have a career well into the golden years...

Music star. I think you would get to meet alot more interesting people. Seems as though most athletes live in a box.

My life right now is pretty fun without being drunk, doped, or drugged every day of my life, and coming home to only my wife and my daughter every evening. I'm sure I could have plenty of fun being a "clean" rock star...

I think I would take athlete even though I am somewhat of a music nerd and still play my guitar from time to time. Just seems like that would be way more fun.

Re: Would you rather be a star athlete or music star?

Athlete would be great, but there is something about not being hated by some fan base. Like if I was a Cub, lots of other fans would hate me, and if I struck out, even my own fans for a moment would. But as a musician, fans might like your type of music, but then they wouldn't see you in concert. So I am leaning toward athlete, but the life of a musician would be more tolerable I think.

Re: Would you rather be a star athlete or music star?

Gotta go with musician. Careers can span decades. Look how long Neil Young has been at it. Once the music is made, it's available to be rediscovered by generation after generation, even if you only ever record one album. There is also the chance to continually reinvent yourself. David Bowie is a great example of that. Listen to "Suffragette City", "Modern Love" and "I'm Afraid of Americans" all back to back and tell me he hasn't worn a few different hats.

Being an athlete would be awesome as well, but there are no walls for musicians.

Re: Would you rather be a star athlete or music star?

I would much rather be a star athlete and it's not even close.

If your peers and the public see you as a star professional athlete it means that you are the best of the best at what you do, that you have the physical skills to dominate your sport, and you have worked your butt off for your entire life to be the best.

I'm sure it would be a great life to be a music star, but you can't tell me that every music "star" has these same qualities. Case in point:

Yeah, you're right - no one hates "rock stars".
