More proof Baylor was a powerhouse many moons ago

Looking over the rosters from the original Tecmo Bowl (AKA the greatest sports video game ever created-see my avatar-12 teams/only 4 plays-from 1989) looks like Baylor...yes Baylor produced the most star power amongst current Big 12 schools.

Bold denotes bona-fide star. Underline denotes solid player. Italics denotes key role player.

    Baylor representatives:
    Dennis Gentry-KR Chicago
    Gerald McNeil-KR Cleveland
    Mike Singletary-MLB Chicago
    Ronnie Lee-OL Miami
    Van McElroy-DB Los Angeles
    Keith Bishop-OL Denver
    Ron Francis-DB Dallas

    Talent Summary:
Gentry and McNeil are easily the best kick returners in the game. Huge impact players. Singletary is basically the 2nd or 3rd best LB on the game.

Bishop is a big time OL name on the game. Ronnie Lee is a run of the mill O-lineman. McElroy is a marginal DB, and Francis while merely average plays a decent role in the Dallas defensive scheme.

    Texas:
    Steve McMichael- DL Chicago
    Raul Allegre-K New York
    Mike Babb-OL Cleveland
    Dave Studdard-OL Denver

    Talent Summary:
Mcmichael is a big time disruptor in the run game. Allegre has a pretty weak leg. Babb and Studdard are both run of the mill O-linemen.

    Oklahoma:
    Brian Bosworth- LB Seattle
    Bill Brooks- WR Indianapolis
    Jackie Shipp- LB Miami

    Talent Summary:
The Boz is a pretty solid player, but is greatly overshadowed by the maniac that lines up next to him in the form of Fredd Young. Bill Brooks is a pile of steaming poo and runs about as fast as that. Shipp is worthless and further overshadowed by a slightly awesome John Offerdahl.

    Missouri:
    Leo lewis- WR Minnesota
    Jerome Sally- DL Indianapolis
    Talent Summary:
Leo Lewis is a **** poor WR counterpart to Anthony Carter. Jerome Sally is pretty much a worthless slug. Way to shine in the big time Mizzou!

    Texas A&M:
    Jacob Green- DT Seattle
    Cody Risien- OL Cleveland
    Talent Summary:
Green isnt a top notch player, but plays a pretty key role in the Seattle defense. Risien is a pancaker opening holes for Kevin mack.

    Oklahoma State:
    Dexter Manley- DL Washington
    Talent Summary:
Wow! Dexter is a destroyer of worlds.

    Nebraska:
    Roger Craig- RB San Fransisco
    Talent Summary:
Craig is a solid back who plays a key role in the vaunted 49ers offense.

    Texas Tech:
    Timmy Smith
    Talent Summary:
    Run of the mill RB.

    Colorado:
    Linden King- LB Los Angeles
    Talent Summary:
King, sometimes referred to as the beastmaster plays a pretty decent role in LA's defense.

    Kansas State:
    Damian Johnson- OL New York
    Talent Summary:
    Run of the mill O-lineman.

    To properly rank em
    1. Baylor (easy choice)
    2. OSU(Manley is that dominant!)
    3. Texas A&M (2 pretty solid unherelded guys)
    4. Nebraska (Craig is the man)
    5. Texas (McMichael and 3 bums)
    6. Oklahoma (Boz and 2 bums )
    7. Texas Tech (while average, RB is a key position)
    8. Colorado (King has his moments)
    9. Missouri (based on sheer volume)
    10. Kansas State (slim pickins)

Its feasible to place Nebraska over ATM, but I went with sheer volume here. I good starter vs 2 solid starters type argument.

Re: More proof Baylor was a powerhouse many moons ago

Whats really amazing about all this(Baylor domination) is that Tecmo Bowl was only a sampling of 12 teams of the 28 that the NFL had at the time. Also Tecmo Bowl had only 9 players on each side of the ball.

For all I know baylor was a buffett of NFL players around that time.

oooppps.....forgot 3 guys. Timmy Smith(TTU)...STuddard-Texas and Ship (OU). Need to add em.

Research into the historical strength of Big XII programs.

Is there nothing video games can't do?

If we went a step further and did this for Tecmo Super Bowl then I'm sure ISU and Kansas get representation....

However that game is the devil incarnate so i refuse. Original Tecmo all the way!
