    Jiri Hubalek

Since most of the threads post-KSU are going to be pretty negative, which I understand, since that is possibly the worst ISU game I've seen since my tenure as a student began, I want to throw this out there.

Jiri had an incredible game today. Props to Jiri for carrying our team for over 30 minutes of the game while no one else seemed to be able to make a shot. Until Dodie hit that ridiculous 3-pointer with 13:12 left in the 2nd half, Jiri accounted for half or more of our team's points. Jiri put up 17 points and 10 rebounds for a solid game, and while Taylor ended up as our leading scorer (total garbage), Jiri was the MAN this afternoon.

And thank you Stumpy for this:

    Re: Jiri Hubalek

Jiri has some nice post moves, I've been very impressed by those. He's good with either hand and has solid foot work. If he could bulk up somemore, he could be a solid pro someday, especially overseas.

    Re: Jiri Hubalek

Jiri could've had close to 30 points today if we would've fed him the ball more.

Couldn't agree more. Jiri has transformed from a liability to maybe my favorite cyclone this year. Great coaching by McDermott and a great effort to improve by Jiri.

The light finally turned on for Jiri. He's a perfect example why no player should doubt Mac's system and should be buying into it 100% by now if they haven't by now.

    Re: Jiri Hubalek

What is up with McIntosh. I would think he could shoot better or drive. Same for Dodie. Can he dribble the lane? Until we stress the other team, we will be offensively challenged. So what if we have 400 plays in the playbook, we need to be sharper passers. Just keep Brock on the bench until the game is over.

    Re: Jiri Hubalek

Jiri has been great since the start of Big 12 play. K-State has to be given all the credit today. I thought we played pretty good defense but K-State would still drain the shot. Our offense is lacking so I think games are definitely going to be won on the defensive end of the floor. If we can hold an opponent to our dismal shooting percentage we should be able to win many more games.

    Re: Jiri Hubalek

Right on... Jiri has no question been the most improved player this year. And people think that's a crappy award to get... but he keeps this up... he can be the team's player of the year. He got so much crap from everyone earlier in the year... and he's doing something about it. I even saw one time when he was open on the arc... started to take the three... then decided against it. Maybe he saw nobody was there to rebound... who knows why he chose to not shoot it... but he knows that if he misses it... his body won't be under the hoop to get the rebound. He deserves bigtime props for not doing what he wants to do... but what our coach asks him to do.

I am glad to Jiri step it up. He started off rather weak this season, but he settled down started listening and it has paid off big time for him. He is starting to have a great season and I love watching him play.

His hook shot and post moves have been a thing of beauty the last 6 games. The only question I have is why we don't give him the ball more often.

Jiri is living proof you can turn it on if you have the desire. He will be a starter next year at this level of play.

    Re: Jiri Hubalek

GMac excels at coaching big men. That is why it was so crazy to me that Taggert left. Of course, Taggert probably couldn't have handled the dicipline, but GMac could have made him a top tier player in the Big 12.

Two reasons why Jiri doesn't get the ball more, number one being we don't have a point guard who can penetrate, draw the post defender, and pass to the open man. (See Tinsley) Number two reason, our primary ball handler would rather shoot than pass. When he does penetrate, he forces the ball rather than dish to an open man.

    Re: Jiri Hubalek

Jiri will probably be the best player on the team by the end of the year, if he isn't already. Biggest turnaround in a player that I've ever seen, except maybe Lafester Rhodes. What's great is that he can get event better.

The entire team needs to hit the weights in the offseason. Physically it looked like men against boys yesterday.
