    Great Blog- Duke's Brother

A guy I loosely know is one Danny Burk, Duke Burk's (our 174#) older brother who was a national qualifier (I believe) a couple of years ago at Northern Illinois when Duke still wrestled there. Anyway, this is his take on the whole situation..

I'd have to say I agree overall.

Agree. Take the time and read it. Very balanced piece and well worth your time. The guy really nails it, glad his brother(?) is a part of OUR team.

Good article. As a wrestling fan this situation still bothers me. I just want answers I know we'll never get.

    Re: Great Blog- Duke's Brother

I READ HIS POST AND AGREE. I have been trying to figure out why he left. For some reason I will never know he felt he had to leave. He makes the statement he loves ISU but he choose to leave. Cael was always a class act and a pleasure to talk to at wrestling outings and dinners.
I will never root for him again but did in the past and I will never not support ISU wrestling. But I wish no ill will to him or his family and hope he finds whatever he is looking for except a national Title.
Lets hope he has the class of McD and not take current wrestlers but have heard rumors that he wants to take some. The only person I would let go is CYler for obvious reasons. Cyclone forever Craig

    Re: Great Blog- Duke's Brother

The blog pretty much summed up my thoughts. Cael was frustrated, and thought a change of venue would help. I don't know if down the road it will, and perhaps he may realize it was a mistake someday, but he is very young, and that is how you learn.

A curiousity, as the poster mentioned the Sanderson's Mormon faith, one thing I kind of wondered about from the start was how Cael's family would adjust to living back east in region that is extremely conservative. I know that Ames has a very strong Mormon community.

It's a great perspective and really the only one that makes sense. Too much pressure from ISU fans...I kind of get it.

    Re: Great Blog- Duke's Brother

the interesting part for me is his discussion of the fans, and my reaction to the PSU article about cael's news conference. When I read that they had 500 people there I thought, "what the hell, that's all." If we were in their shoes, and hired Cael, there'd have been thousands show up for the presser. If he's looking for low key he's found it.

Hope is not a method. Soon is not a time.

I went to school at Iowa State; I also went to Penn State. State College is a tremendous college town, but MUCH more liberal than Ames. Lots of students from east coast area.

Great read Illini, thanks for posting. Have you heard anything about the Illinois guys? I saw a post somewhere suggesting that Spangler was done as a Clone but the rest(Duke and Fan)) were staying?

I have heard spangler is lookin to leave too. Duke doesnt have much of a choice because of his age and the whole reason he came here was for the education program (history ed I believe). For some reason he wasn't able to get into the education program at NIU so he had to transfer. I have heard nothing in the way of Fanthorpe, but from where I stand he doesnt have much of a choice because he is a senior and where else would he go? Northwestern is about the only place that would be a good fit, but I'm sure hes staying here. JWard is here for good too, I think, because he has a pretty good reason to stay. I'm not going to get into personal details, but I think a move at this point would be tough for him. I havent heard anything about clark.

    Re: Great Blog- Duke's Brother

I find it really hard to believe that alot of the upper classmen would leave, especially before they know who the next coach will be. I would think that they would have some deep roots and relationships at ISU.
