    Old SciFi movies

I recorded FreeJack a while back and sat down to watch it a bit today.

The first thing that struck me about the proposed future of the movie was how lame the graphics on their hi-tech stuff was - then it turned out that the "future" part of the movie was taking place in 2009.

I had also started to watch Bladerunner a few days ago. This movie talked about "replicant" androids and space colonization - in 2017 - but again the computer technology (especially graphics and the user interface) seemed woefully out of date even for today's standards.

I just watched ALIEN today. It's still outstanding.

Bladerunner puts me to sleep every time I try to watch it.

The movies are what they are.

But if you think about the tech that you're using right now and compare that to what they're using in the fictional future, how does it rate?

I want my flying car. It seems like those are always about 20 years away in sci-fi world.

I think that we were due for them about 1990

How dare you guys bad mouth Bladerunner. That movie is awesome. Yes, the tech is out of date, but the movie is great.

    I didn't badmouth it.

But Harrison Ford sheltering his head with a newspaper in 2017? I doubt they'll be any left at that point!

Well, Back To The Future II takes place in 2015, so I am looking forward to getting a Hoverboard and a self-drying jacket in about six years! Oh, and a Mr. Fusion for my Flux Capacitor!

Is Mystery Science Theater 3000 on any more? Great show.

I went to a movie a couple of weeks ago at the Wynsong 16 sat behind four high school kids -- could have been freshmen in college.

Anyway, they talked through the whole movie just like Mystery Science Theater 3000. Normally, I would be upset, but the movie sucked and the kids were pretty damn funny.

I ain't telling the movie title just in case someone else liked the movie

It's difficult to compare our current technology to the technology in these films. Even if they had a great vision, the technology didn't really exist to visualize it. Today with graphics the way they are they can simulate anything the mind can imagine.

I can't help it with Bladerunner. I have tried watching it multiple times and doze off every single time. I have never seen the entire movie in one sitting.

One movie that had a fairly forward looking user interface was Minority Report - although I'm not sure how that will stand in another 10 or 12 years.
