    January 19, 2007

Former Iowa State running backs coach Tony Alford will assume a similar role at Louisville for new coach Steve Kragthorpe, university officials announced.

Alford coached at Iowa State nine seasons before losing his job when Gene Chizik replaced Dan McCarney.

The Cyclones had three 1,000-yard rushers under Alford — Darren Davis between 1997 and ’99, Ennis Haywood in 2000 and ’01, and Stevie Hicks in 2004.

That's totally cool! Louisville is turning into a great program. Best of luck to Tony

Good for him, Good Luck Tony!

“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.”

"I hope to coach here until I retire," Hoiberg said.
