    Re: I-380 Speeders Beware

Man I hate those things. I think people that run red lights should be ticketed but I knew once this caught on they would start using them for speeding as well. It's coming.......

It will be interesting to know how it works. Can it cover multiple speeders at once in several lanes?

    Re: I-380 Speeders Beware

"Graham cites studies that show cities using the enforcement cameras can cut crashes by 20 percent."

    That's nice...but here's the kicker:

"Even so, the cameras are projected to bring $750,000 a year in ticket revenue into the department's coffers."

These things are absolute BS. We're getting closer and closer to a society without privacy. What the hell happens if your buddy is borrowing your car and speeds, what about your kids? I assume the person the car is registered to still gets the ticket.

They are big in the U.K. and there are some funny things that people do to them like shoot them out, spray paint the lens, etc.

Well, if your buddy or your kids get caught in the picture, I assume you would punish your kids and think twice before letting your buddy drive your car.

CR needs to watch out. My dad used to live around the Ocala area and it was known as one of the worst speed traps in the state. This new guy is from Ocala.

Actually, I was more concerned about my insurance rates rising from a speeding ticket that isn't mine.

    Re: I-380 Speeders Beware

I could handle losing the ability to set the cruise at 5 over if it meant that the 19 year old girl that is doing 85 with a cellphone to her head got a $300 ticket. I'm all for that.

I'm far from a button-down law abiding driver, but I can't touch 35 without seeing several examples of people that this system would deservedly punish.

The issue I have with most of these automated systems is accuracy. The red light cameras especially have had issues with adjustments and ended up sending out errant citations. If you could dial it in to nail people that are speeding excessively (what ever that limit should be), I'd be for it.

That said, speeding is a lot less dangerous than many of the other ticketable offenses I generally see.

I wonder how insurance would handle that. I wonder if they would give somebody a break if they had photographic proof that it wasn't them driving.

I guess its just means we have to be very careful about who we let drive the car.

That is an obvious issue. What it boils down to though is that someone is breaking the law. The police is more concerned about the enforcement than the effects. I would expect a legal precident to be set very quickly for something like this.

Even the husband/wife thing is a wrinkle since each has an individual license.

My guess would be that the only way to overturn something would be with photographic evidence and disclosure of the actual offender.

    Re: I-380 Speeders Beware

The area of 380 he is talking about is a dangerous area... big, long "S" curve on a bridge (first to freeze when cold).

It will be interesting what they consider speeding to send out the ticket. 56? 59? 62?

And won't a motorcycle be the toughest to catch when wearing a helmet?

Tickets issued by the cameras don't effect your insurance premiums if I understand it correctly.

When a cop pulls you over and gives you a ticket it is a criminal offense, but when the camera's give you a ticket it is a civil offense that is gone once the fine is paid.
