Why? Many Cyclone fans still don't know how to spell it:

    MacCarney
    Macarney
    McCarny

    Re: McCarney to Okie State?

    that would be awkward...

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

    Re: McCarney to Okie State?

I've heard his name connected to interviewing but I haven't heard anything new today. I know he's showing interest in a couple of jobs and most revolve around the Defensive Coordinator position rather than Head Coach. I think something like the DC job at OSU would be a great fit and a fairly easy transition. He may look at the NFL a little harder as well so as not to have to take a step down at all. A DC in the NFL would probably not fit him as well, in my opinion, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be good at it.

D-Mac needs to go to NFL for awhile, everyone knows his desire to coach again.........however to take a D1 job other than HC is come down for him...go to NFL for few years have some success and go back to D1 if you want.....can't hurt the resume either

Tampa is looking like a big possibility.

My thinking all along has been that D-Mac should take an NFL job as opposed to a college coordinator's job. Besides the money the nfl throws around old Mac will be one of the highest paid coaches any where with two paychecks coming in!

Good Luck Mac Hoping the Best for You!

Best place for Mac to return to?

I wonder what others think about the best place for Mac to go. I could see him at a Div 1A school and working his way back up the ranks. He seems to really love being the leader and should certainly be an attractive candidate for a smaller college that needs to rebuild. The would seem a better fit to me that a lesser spot on a college team. Asst in the pros also a possiblity, but an HC job seems a better fit. Thoughts?

To my knowledge, Rice hasn't expressed interest in Coach Mac but I think a school like that would be a great fit for him.

Maybe the fine people on CF should start a letter writing campaign.

It should start with a picture of Dan, and the caption should read:

"Please hire this man, so the threads on the website concerning where he will end up will cease."

Oh and I am waiting for the next brave soul on here to insult me, but not have the courage to sign their name.

Rice has a relatively new head coach (been there 1 year I believe) and he did such a great job in his first year that he was given a lucrative extension. McCarney will not be the Rice head coach anytime soon.

I just heard Rice hired a another new coach...I somehow missed the fact that the "new" one I referred to above (Todd Graham) bolted for Tulsa after 1 year and a contract restructure by Rice. For those of you that are looking for loyalty in a coach...forget it. These guys are out to get theirs while the gettin' is good. Frankly, I don't blame them. This Todd Graham went from HS coach to Rice coach to Tulsa coach in 2 years!

At any rate...McCarney was not hired by Rice...so he will not be the Rice head coach anytime soon...at least I was right about something!

    Ditto Darts!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets negative rep from anonymous McCarney Lovers anytime his name is mentioned!
