    Prins, Poppens, and Zimmerman!!!

Wow we have a talented class of freshman post players coming in!!! We will most likely be starting Zimmerman and Prins... I think Poppens will be a big surprise and will get plenty of minutes off the bench.. I can see Lightbourne getting some good play off the bench...

    Re: Prins, Poppens, and Zimmerman!!!

sorry, attempting to study for my FE exam next week has made me bitter and mean.

Should be able to to find some decent threads on at least Prins and Zimmerman on here without looking too hard though. Poppens I've seen less about.

    Re: Prins, Poppens, and Zimmerman!!!

...plus wing Jessica Schroll from Michigan -- the original post was just about the post players.

If you're looking for a few details...

Anna Prins: 6'6" post from Colorado. CO Gatorade POY. Best of the Best: Ms. Colorado Basketball Classes 4A-1A - The Denver Post

Amanda Zimmerman: 6'2" PF from Ballard (Huxley). Iowa Miss Basketball. Ames Tribune > Archives > Ames Tribune > Sports > Ballard's Zimmerman named Miss Basketball

Chelsea Poppens: 6'2" Post from A-P. 1st team class 2A. 2A ranks: #3 in scoring, #1 in rebounding (3.2 rpg over #2), #4 in steals, #6 in blocks (Couldn't find a good recent article, so posting this one about her surviving the F-5 tornado)
    Omaha.com Sports Section

Jessica Schroll: 5'11" wing from Michigan. Class A (large schools) HM all-state. Not a lot of info out there about her.

Chelsea Poppens 6-2 F/C Aplington Parkerburg HS team struggled this year like 13-12 I think she averaged like 22 points and 16 rebounds and was an outstanding volleyball player also. excellent jumper should go in hard for the rebounds

Amanda Zimmerman 6-2 F Ballard HS Committed to ISU as a 8th grader helped Ballard win the 2009 state title.. 2009 Miss Iowa basketball.. has a solid build should make an excellent power forward averaged like 16 points and 7 rebounds on a very balanced ballard squad

Anna Prins 6-6 Center Broomfield, CO should make an immediate impact down low. Colorado gatorade player of the year I think she is like the #13 ranked post player in her class.. Has good range.. should be able to give us a solid presance at the 5 postion.. should be a a great shot blocker.... also found this:This past season, Prins averaged 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals per game. Her statistics could have been much more impressive but Broomfield won by such big margins so often that starters did not play full games.

    Re: Prins, Poppens, and Zimmerman!!!

    Other brief tidbits:

Fennelly calls Poppens a "motor always on" player like Stuckey. Could be interesting to see that in a post player.

Prins isn't afraid to step out and hit a three. There was one playoff game where she was triple-teamed in the first quarter so she went behind the arc and hit a pair of threes.

Zimmerman is kind of in the mold of Arlen offensively.

Schroll lists pigs as one of her biggest fears and pork chops as one of her favorite foods. I've got good news and bad news for her about her new home...

A friend of mine has seen Poppens play as well, and was very impressed with her work ethic.

mred - As others have mentioned, I appreciate your efforts at providing information as well. How many different spreadsheets do you maintain?

Is who I'm most excited about. We haven't had a post player like that since Angie Welly??

With Bill Finnelleys offensive style it will be great canning 3's from the outside yet having someone on the inside to suck up rebounds.

Thanks for the info...I graduated high school in the early 80's...in Iowa...and the days of halfcourt 6 on 6 women's basketball are long gone. Does anyone else remember those games? I really enjoy the game now and am proud of ISU women's basketball, great job Cyclones.

i actually did a project on it back in like 8th grade.. its a very interesting way to play

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."
