    1. Create spring bowl games in San Diego, Orlando, Fla., Naples, Fla., Myrtle Beach, S.C., San Antonio, New Orleans, Vail, Colo., Pebble Beach, Calif., and Scottsdale, Ariz.

    2. Allow schools to play other schools in "spring game" scrimmages.

In other words, instead of the Red squaring off against the White on Saturday in Memorial Stadium, the Red and White would play Iowa in a four-quarter game. Yes, we would keep score. No, it would not go on a coach's record nor would he be able to collect a $1 million bonus for winning the "spring game." Texas could feel free to use an asterisk.

Who wouldn't want to do this? The players would get to hit someone else besides their teammates. The coaches would be able to evaluate the roster based on performance in an actual competitive game. The fans would get to roll out their favorite jerseys and charcoal grills and pretend it's college football season.

These types of scrimmages already occur in volleyball, men's basketball, soccer and baseball. Think of the money. You might not charge a regular-season price. But you could get half ($30) and, in turn, half of a regular-season home payday. ESPN, Fox or the NFL Network might also pay to televise these games. Did I mention the money?

I think it would be cool because you'd see a lot of major teams going head to head if the score didn't count.

Hear hear. First day of lineman camp my senior year of high school we were doing wind sprints on a practice field full of divots. At full speed my right foot hit one of those divots the wrong way and I'm pretty sure I tore every single ligament on the top of my foot near my ankle. While it wasn't season ending, it might as well had been - I missed all of the two-a-days and every single practice in which we learned the plays. (it probably would have been season-ending if I had gotten the surgery on it that I likely needed. The "doctor" took one look at it and said it likely wasn't necessary, and that was good enough for my parents. However, for my entire 6 years at ISU, just the slightest misstep on the smallest of cracks or uneven surfaces was enough for me to roll the ankle and for me to be in pain for a week. That and my foot hung at a very odd angle from the ankle for nearly 5 years. I think it only finally fully healed 3-4 years ago, but that's quite a long time for an injury that happened in the summer of 1996...
