    Re: Jucos

    Lytch is probably a no...
Pelham...Similar to Clark...very athletic; limited offensively, but defends very well.
McDonald is a wait and see...tricky grade situation.

    Not familar with Bush...Ask Cyismydog.

Bush is a small forward that originally committed to Jackson state, then Arkansas out of high school. He's a skilled SF, but didn't qualify academically. He doesn't have an offer right now though.
He was a 4-star out of high school.

Are we passing on Lytch or is he passing on us? Any idea as to the priority of these guys if we had our pick? Thames #1, Pelham #2, etc?

We are passing...A lot of variables right now to pick a #1 and #2. Thames has a lot of competition for him.

If Brackin's declares (with no agent), don't plan on McDermot filling his scholarship spot this year. McD wants to leave it open in case he changes his mind. We do have one spot available regardless, which I think we will bring in an athletic juco guard who can play the 2 and 3.

    Re: Jucos

    A couple of names:

Southeastern (ia) CC has a long wing Jeron Lee and Norval, Arnold who both played well for them this year, helping them beat Indian Hills who was really solid. Both have one year remaining but depending how things pan out this year and with Barnes and the other swingman I believe Ejim, these would be two guys to take a look at.

Marshalltown CC- These guys return 1st team all conf. performer DeMarcus Phillips, a milwaukee guy who played just the second half of the season but avg. 15.5 ppg and can flat out score. They also have a skinny wing Will Clyborn who reminded me of Wesley Johnson a couple years back.

Just a couple names from Iowa community colleges.

ISU helped put him there...IMO, backup option.

Played against MCC this year but it was early so didn't play against Phillips. But wasn't impressed with Clayborn. We also scrimmaged SECC early and they were talented but I think we can get better.

I know you were just throwing out names, this is just what I think

How do you know all this stuff? Are you the research guy on this site or did you actually know that off the top of your head?

"De-committed from Arkansas following the coaching change...Signed with Jackson State but failed to qualify and will attend JUCO (Univ. of Ark. at Fort Smith)"

Jenirro Bush - College Basketball Recruiting 2009 - ESPN

But he probably already knew this before he was asked. Since it seems like he knows just about everyone that is getting a look from Iowa State.

Edit: Also, by this list he is 84th, but I do know he was up 79th at one point. I'm not sure what the reason for bumping him down to a 3 star after the season was (maybe because he was headed to Jackson State?).

Yeah the link isn't working, sorry. For the little comment it about him it says, "Has size and point guard skills." FWIW

    Re: Jucos

I'd like to see Coach McD bank whatever scholarships remain open going into next season. Yes, even if Brackins leaves. For the last 3 years we've had players transfer away and then the coaches have scrambled to find their replacements. Here are the last guys to sign in their respective classes:

    2006 - W. Johnson, Dunson, McIntosh, Taylor
    2007 - Brister, Vette
    2008 - Mann, Pomlee, Vanderbeken
2009 - Dendy (not signed yet)

Pomlee and Vanderbeken are the only ones still here. Either the coaches didn't do their due diligence on the other guys or signed them up anyway. I'd much rather see them focus on the guys who are returning. Our best team ever only went 8 deep.

Since McD has been here, his teams have had one or two stars and 11-12 guys who are very difficult to differentiate from one another. I think that causes a lot of frustration among the fringe players because they all want and all believe they're entitled to 20 minutes of playing time. Anyone we sign at this stage isn't likely to stand out from our already crowded bench... so I say bank the scholarship until 2010. That way the coaches can spend their time evaluating and getting to know the players in that class.
