    Bar Owners/Employees

As I stated in a thread I started a week ago, Iím looking to buy a kegerator for a home bar Iím starting. At the end of last weekend I gave in a purchased one. I consider myself to be a beer snob and tend to stay away from American domestics, drinking only imports. The problem with these ďthickĒ imported beers is you need special equipment in order to serve. Iíve found all of these from different sites and used on Ebay so Iím almost all set to go. But now left with one problem finding the gas to serve these beers. The special gas requires a 75% nitrogen and 25% CO2 mix, better know as beer gas. Anyone know where to find this? Iíve called all sorts of welding suppliers, beverage suppliers, and even gas suppliers with no luck what so ever. Every time I call I get the same reaction with people wondering what in the hell I need it for. Iím not ready to give up hope just yet since bars in bigger cities such as Des Moines and even college towns sell Guinness on tap so someone has to be supplying it. Any ideas on where to start?

You should be able to find plenty of this at the spring game tailgate.

The general rule of thumb on finding gas is he who smelt it, dealt it. So I'd start there.

I'm not sure if they work with individuals, but I know that Helget Gas handles a number of commercial accounts. My understanding is that the systems are not cheap because of the inclusion of leak detection sensors.

I run paddy's in campustown and about a year ago the beer companys told us that we didn't have to use the mixed gas anymore. As long as you've got the special tap to run guiness or smithwicks you can just use co2. Not sure what changed for this to happen but its great cause the nitrogen/co2 mix is pretty expensive.

$24.99 for a 20 pound tank. ive got the special spout, but whats so special about it is that it has a peice inside that mixes the nitrogen into the beer as it pours out.

    Re: Bar Owners/Employees

You do need the Nitrogen blended gas to pour guinness. I should know I sell it. I have never heard you can use just regular beer gas. If so I would like to know what changed.

    besides this:

    guinness surger - Google Video

google guinness and nitrogen and your questions should be answered on your home bar.
