    WBB Juco post players

With Arlen gone, we have an immediate post depth issue. Lightbourne is the only returning post player. Prins, Zimmerman, and Poppens are the incoming post freshmen.

We've got to look at picking up a juco or two. There are now four scholarships open for the upcoming season and five more will open up after next season.

    Juco all-americans:

    Div I
    http://www.njcaa.org/sports_awards.c...ivid=1&slid=11

    Div II
    NJCAA | Sports | Women's Basketball | Home

    Div III
    NJCAA | Sports | Women's Basketball | Home

All-americans that were sophomores this season and went to an Iowa juco:

McKensey Long, 5'8" PG at Kirkwood (1st team Div 2)
El Sara Greer, 6'2" center at Kirkwood (2nd team Div 2)
Danitra Lewis, 6'1" center at Iowa Lakes (2nd team Div 2)

    El Sara Greer

    Waterloo East: 3rd-team all-state as a senior
Freshman year at Kirkwood: 6.4 ppg, 7 rpg. 85 blocks on the season.
Sophomore year at Kirkwood: 7.0 ppg, 9.1 rpg. 111 blocks on the season.

Kirkwood has won 3 straight national championships with a very balanced offense (first team AA McKensey Long only has 10.5 ppg to lead the team) so don't let the scoring average scare you.

    McKensey Long

Carthage High School (IL): 1st-team all-state as a senior. 17.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 6.5 assists and she shot 41% from the 3-point line (I believe these are numbers from her senior season).
Freshman year at Kirkwood: 6.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 3.2 assists per game
Sophomore year at Kirkwood: 10.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 3.7 assists.

See above disclaimer regarding scoring averages at Kirkwood.

    Re: WBB Juco post players

I agree with you completely that ISU needs to pick up a Juco post. Unfortunately, I'm skeptical as to whether there are any still out there that could contribute meaningfully at the Big 12 level...

    Danitra Lewis

She was HM all-american in high school. She played at Xavier as a freshman in 05-06, so I don't know if she'd have more than 1 year of eligibility left. I'm also not sure where those other two seasons went.

    Re: WBB Juco post players

I'm sure that Fennelly is already recruiting to fill these spots. I know we need a Juco, but with 4 spots open and another 5 seniors leaving after next year, I wouldn't be surprised if BF trys to bring in a couple of freshmen. There are a few good recruits still out there.

Here's an article about a few unsigned players:

    Re: WBB Juco post players

With Lacey and Bolte already here, combined with what we are bringing in, I think BF has a legit case for quick rebuilding. Combined with coming off a Elite Eight and three straight seasons in the second round and a new practice facility that will be open for next season, I think Fennelly has a much of a shot at these unsigned as anyone.

My family is good friends with Kim Muhl, the Kirkwood womens coach, and he was interviewed by an ESPN writer at the NJCAA tournament about why nobody in Iowa was recruiting her. Other than Tocarra Ross, Bill prefers to bypass Kirkwood.

    And Desiree Francis?

BF doesn't get too many jucos. Kirkwood is the only one he's gone to more than once.

    Re: WBB Juco post players

Didn't Desiree Fransis come from Kirkwood? We got 2 players from Kirkwood that have provided immediate impact. I would like us to get another post or forward from the junior college ranks to provide some experience.

Sorry, I had "in the last decade" originally and must have deleted it. Yeah Desiree back in the late 90's.

    Re: WBB Juco post players

There's a juco post that played for the national runnerup (Jefferson College) out of St. Louis. Was the leading juco scorer in 2008 and averaged a double-double this year. 1st team AA. Her name is Danielle Adams and she is out of Lee's Summit in the KC area. She was a Top 100 player out of HS, originally signed with MU, but was a non-qualifier. She's only 6'1" but has a body like Courtney Paris and a arms like she is 6'3" or 6' 4". She can handle the ball anywhere on the court and can shoot the three as well as post up. She hasn't committed to anyone yet that I know of, and I am not sure where she is with her grades to graduate from juco to be eligible to play Div. 1. Also don't know if she can be a BF type player.

She's considering Mississippi State, Louisville, Texas A&M, and Auburn.

We apparently showed interest in her out of high school. We are listed at the bottom of this page. It says "no interest" but that's likely because of the verbal to MO.
