    USC Troubles

I did not see this posted, looks like USC might be getting into some trouble over Mayo and Bush - they combined the investigations into one. I wonder if that is to strengthen the penalty or to make it easier to dismiss both.

    Re: USC Troubles

They aren't Iowa State, they will get away with it, with nothing more then a slight smack on the wrists, if that even get that. My guess is nothing will happen.

    Re: USC Troubles

What's their national ranking, BCS position on an annual basis, and overall national exposure, fanbase size and net income?

Yeah - "nothing to see here, move along."

Im pretty sure if that program got bent over a barrel, the rest of the country would probably celebrate together.

Well, Florida State isn't exactly Iowa State either, but they got bent over a barrel.

I doubt they do anything, but the NCAA has taken down larger schools than us before.

    Re: USC Troubles

I thought this was going to be about the troubles of USC's bball team. Looks like they are going to lose their 3 best players from this year and possibly their best recruit.

They went from being a team that had a chance to be top 10 next year to a team that is going to ..... probably suck

Why would the NCAA Penalize a professional franchise like USC??

    Re: USC Troubles

So I'm guessing they combined it so they could punish USC's basketball team for Bush's actions. They know they can't bust the football team so why not make a statement with their basketball team.

    Re: USC Troubles

If these charges are proven to be true they deserve serious penalties and not just slaps-on-the-wrist. Reggie Bush already had a book written about him called Tarnished Heisman. In order to clean-up college athletics you need to make an example out of any premier programs that are breaking rules. Cut USC’s scholarships from 85 to 55 in football for 5 years and ban them from bowl appearances for the same amount of time. In basketball cut the scholarships down to 8 per year and ban them from any post-season basketball tournaments. These are serious allegations. This is cash to players and a lot of it!

Yep. This is why I have never said Pete Carrol is a great coach. The man cheats. His players are paid to play there. He bends rules. He didn't win in the NFL b/c he couldn't cheat and if he didn't cheat at USC he would have more L's

What’s the most nauseating to me is the positive publicity he receives on College Game Day and other programs. The same is true for Joe Paterno and Kirk Ferentz with all the thugs they run through their programs. What great guys. What a joke. Until ESPN and others start exposing top-notch programs NCAA athletics will continue to be dirty.

Its ESPN so don't count on it.

    Maybe.

Does anyone remember the name of the ISU player the NCAA ruled ineligible and a scholarship or two was taken away from ISU because an assistant coach either:

    * gave the player a ride to classes because it was pouring down rain

    or

    * bought him a burger at McDonalds?

And in that same year the it was discovered the starting quarterback for Alabama (I think) went on an all expense paid hunting trip with an alumni member. The NCAA, when it found out, put Alabama on "probation."

I'm going to do a little research, but I think that's how everything happened.

    Re: USC Troubles

Florida States penalties could have been so much worse as well. I still think it's BS that they got away with it, in multiple sports for a number of years.

Jiri Hubalek was suspended bball games for using the car of a family he had grown to be friends with. And they were Hawk fans!
