It's dead. it can't come back for a variety of reasons, money, Title IX, etc.

Yeah, but if we pony up the bucks, and add women's wrestling to off-set Title IX........

    From Dumb and Dumber:

    Lloyd
: What are the chances of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together?
Mary: Well, that's pretty difficult to say.
Lloyd: Hit me with it! I've come a long way to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?
    Mary: Not good.
Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million.
    [pause]
Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance.

The chances are better than 1 in a million

If we could somehow start to field a consistently competitive football program, and to a lesser extent men's basketball program, we could finally start to consider it. Football is and will always be the "sugar daddy" of the athletic department.

If we get to the point that we expand seating to 70,000 plus and fill it up game after game, and go to big bowl games every year, we'll have more money than we've ever known what to do with. And baseball comes back. but, I wouldn't expect it for a while. Five years would probably be the most optimistic though, but we're most likely looking like at least 10 years, if ever...

    Re: Cyclone baseball?

Need $ (as AnkenyCy 24 said).

JP has been on record as wanting to compete for the President's Cup, and needs baseball to be able to realistically compete for that.

To have baseball, we need more money (Title IX would not be a problem, JP has said).

    Re: Cyclone baseball?

Title IX has never been nor will it likely ever be an issue. I'm not sure funding was really an issue either, as various sources (including some users from this site) have said that many donors came forward with donations that would have sustained the baseball program for many years when BVDv said that unless funds could be raised that he was going to take the ax to it (and from what it sounds like the necessary funds were raised in a matter of hours) - and yet he to the hacksaw to it anyway.

BVDv's legacy for you right there, folks - the Scourge of the ISU Athletic Department...

    Re: Cyclone baseball?

If Title IX isn't how are we in compliance with Title IX? Proportional Opportunities, Full accomodation of the female interest or continuing expansion of female opportunites. Most universities are using the third prong, which is why for instance when UNI tried to cut mens and women's swimming, they couldn't, and had to leave women's swimming. A cut in women's or an increase in men's tends to be looked at as evidence of a lack of compliance with the third prong.
