    Anyone been on a cruise?

I'm looking at possibly taking a Mediterrenean cruise in may on Norwegian Cruise Lines or Royal Carribean. I have been on a carnival cruise in the carribean and it was a great time. Anyone have any good or bad experiences on either cruise line? Any advice on what excursions to do at the ports (barcelona, valleta, naples, rome, florence/pisa, nice)? any other experiences or advice is also welcome

Re: Anyone been on a cruise?

Went on a cruise 20 years ago. It was probably the sickest I've ever been in my life. I've outgrown most of my motion sicknesses (I can now do long car trips, planes and roller coasters without getting sick) - but I still haven't outgrown boats, and nothing will KO me like traveling on a large boat in the sea.

I got those patches that you wear behind your ear and I wasn't affected at all.

I didn't get those until after we had landed in Nassau - and it did make all the difference. But I'd much rather spend my money at an all-inclusive resort - nothing like having sweet, solid ground underneath my feet at all times...

Re: Anyone been on a cruise?

I've been on all three (Carnival, Royal Carribean, and Norwegian). In my experience, Carnival is the younger crowd made up of mostly college kids trying to get laid. Norwegian is an older crowd, mostly retired folks and very quiet. RC was a mix of the two. For my family, RC is the preferred cruiseline because I'm still comfortable with having my young kids there without being bothered by the people who are just getting plowed, but I can still enjoy getting loose with a drink and not be looked at funny by someone that reminds me of my grandmother.

The reality though is that the location is also going to play a big part in determining the demographics of the people on the boat, and all cruiselines can offer a great vacation. In the mediteranean, you're probably pretty safe just going with a nice big boat, and a well known company. You'll enjoy whatever you choose.

Went on a Mediterrenean cruise a few years back. We did the florence/pisa tour which was very nice. There was a really long bus ride to Rome so decided not to do that. Have had no problems with Roal Carribean.

I've been on two Royal Carribean Western Carribean cruises and they were excellent, I've talked to others who've done the Eastern & Western Carribean cruise and they liked the Western a lot better.

Re: Anyone been on a cruise?

Haven't been on one but am going to Alaska in June on Princess Cruises. My wife gets motion sick very easily so any remedies for that are welcome.
Any suggestions for things to do in AK?

Probably wanna stay away from a boat called the "Queen Nathan II". Just my input.

    Have fun though.

Re: Anyone been on a cruise?

If you are looking for cruise line advice, I have been on Carnival and Royal Carribean, and I would say RC is the better of the two. I thought the service was a lot better, and the layout of the ship was nicer.

I can't give any advice on ports or anything in Europe though, I've only cruised i nthe Carribean.

Re: Anyone been on a cruise?

I've been on 2 Royal Caribbean cruises and have only good things to say. If you are worried about motion sickness, go on a larger ship. The last one I went on in January, we were on the 2nd largest class of ships and you could barely tell you were moving.

I love the relaxation, the food, and going different places each day that a cruise offers. I highly recommend it.

Well, you got me. Of course I had to look this up on Yahoo, and now I wish I hadn't.

    Dammit.

Trust me, this game doesn't work for everyone. We went on a very large ship - and I was so sick I still felt the rotation of the Earth. I am just that sensitive to the waves. I would never even attempt to do another cruise without Dramamine patches, but quite frankly I'd rather never do another one again at all (and fortunately my wife agrees with me).

By the way, this is the reason why joining the Navy was never an option for me. I would have never been able to handle life at sea.

Would rather put a bullet in my head than ever go on a cruise.
