    Griffey

How nice was it to see Ken Griffey Jr. hit a home run in his first game back in a Mariners uniform? I have always like him, and this is good to see.

    Re: Griffey

Agreed, Ken Griffey is the reason why many of my generation became huge baseball fans. He was the best all-around player for a decade, and had he not been repeatedly hurt he'd be the HR king by now. Griffey is a throwback to a better kind of baseball, and the joy he showed on the field was something out of a storybook.

Also...I played his Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball on my Super Nintendo until it Broke. The best baseball game ever. I played probably 15 to 20 full 162 game seasons on that game, and before every one I would manually update the rosters of every team with their real names.

I hope Griffey has the season of his life this year back with the M's!

    Re: Griffey

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm really happy for him. I've always enjoyed his enthusiasm and the way he played the game.

    Re: Griffey

That's still one of the prettiest swings I've ever seen. Not quite as fluid as it used to be, and he has to cheat a little bit more, but just watching that bat fly through the zone as he turns on one is pretty awesome.

    Re: Griffey

Griffey has been and probably always will be my favorite player. He's one of the few reasons why I even like the M's at all (although not close to being my favorite team). Too bad he'll likely retire without a ring, and really too bad injuries plagued the middle of his career, or we wouldn't even be talking about Bonds or A-Rod right now.

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

Yup. Thanks to him and the team of Mariners assembled around him, the Mariners have always been a sentimental choice for me. Not as sentimental as the Cubs, of course, but I've always liked the Mariners thanks to those teams.

    Re: Griffey

Griffey was a reason I took a liking to the Mariners, and I still kind of hold them as my favorite American League team.

    Re: Griffey

My mom used to work at a hospital and they organized a charter trip to a KC Royals game vs. the Mariners. I was really excited because Griffey was one of my favorite players and I really wanted to try and get his autograph.

We arrived in KC, and then the heavens above opened up and poured down on the city all afternoon, canceling the game, and ruining my chance to see him play.

I wish the catcher from Marshalltown would have made the team this year. I'd have liked to see a few games on TV of those 2 playing together

    Re: Griffey

Griffey used to (maybe still does) buy a new car every year, first thing after spring training... at the end of each season he would give it to the clubbie or some another low paid team employee... pretty nice gesture...

No kidding. You'll only get 15-20 more chances to see it. He's always been a Twins killer..
