    Hawk fan response. 1st Post

    E-mail trail

Hawk fans are so worked up, it kills me. Why not just relax. How can you hate on Pollard? He signed a basketball coach that most Hawk fans would give there left one for. He got the top coach available for the football program.
The other three in the search, whom he shot down (Harbaugh, Brewster, and Kelly), all signed big head coaching deals. Seriously, the man has done a great job thus far. I will not bag on anything he has done, thus far. Sorry more Hawk fans will either have to:
    A) stay at home and watch the game
    B) be relegated to tailgating, or
    C) congregate at a bar, and talk about how great Alex Thompson looked in practice

The truth is, I won't have time to worry about it while I am walking to my seat in Secyion 20, Row 4.
    Go Cyclones.

I don't think that is the case at all. I doubt that many Iowa fans buy season tickets, based on this move. If they do, more power to them. I think that the scenario you are presenting is crazy. Iowa fans will talk a big story about buying season tickets, but few will follow through. The End Zone seats would be their best bets. Closed to orders currently (scalpers). The other packages that are modestly priced are for alumni and donors. Good luck backing up $350 per seat. Not happening. At least not a on a major level. Like I said, ISU fans aren't complaining. If it is a big issue, have Iowa declare the same thing. It is pretty much that way currently. They sell tons of season tickets. We are doing it to try to make a statement. The seats will be sold to corporations before kick-off. However, if they are not, so be it. I can take a 60% filled stadium.

Who's money? He may increase season tickets, which is the goal, but who will be at the game? Iowa fans. On the other games, they will be masquerading as empty seats. He could always add some blow up fans to put in the empty seats owned by Hawk fans. That should go well with the carnival he installed last year.

I love the argument "it's not about Iowa." Why is that the only game no single tix will be sold to then? Sounds like lil brother is relying on Big Bro to support his little stadium. Nice.

I get sick of people saying, "I'll support them when they get better". BS.
You need to support them. They have done everything the fan base has asked for, now they are asking us to do what we said we would do. I like it, and I hope he succeeds with it.
I haven't heard any ISU fans that are upset. Only the people that are passive. It has created a buzz for the program. The only people complaining are the Iowa fans. So be it.

Pollard is an idiot, and I sincerely hope this blows up in his face. Alma mater or not. I am actually not sure what is worse. That Iowa fans will actually pony up for season tickets to ISU for just one game, or that ISU has to rely on Iowa fans to sell their tickets?

Got an opinion on the question at hand?

Hawk fan was not getting a seat anyway unless he got it from a NCC friend. Of those 36k requests for tickets two years ago, how many went to the general public? Let me take a shot at that... ZERO. NCC members snatched them all up, so unless a hawk has a friend who is a donor, he is watching on ESPN anyway.

I like how the Hawk fans say things like "you have to pay to play". Last time I looked our season tickets were more expensive and that's from a fan base that has never been to a January bowl.

Sorry, let me revise. I was the person that put pay to play. I had the last response. He was calling Pollard an idiot. Every fan of Iowa has hated on the decision, while I think it is a great move, that is generating talk. I was just trying to back up what Iowa State is doing. I think Iowa is just ticked they won't be able to get in as easily as they thought they would.

This next year will tell the story. Bottom line is we will have to pay more for our coaches and building plans. Just like the tax accessor.

I think it's very egotistical by Iowa fans to think this plan is for them. It's not for Iowa fans, it's for Iowa State fans to commit to the program.

Re: Hawk fan response. 1st Post

Doesn't Iowa (like any visiting team) get an allotment of tickets for this game? If so, big contributor Iowa fans and grads will get first chance to buy 'em. That means Hawk fans will still have access to tickets...they'll just have to cough up big bucks to the Iowa athletic department to be given an opportunity to buy them. So, it'd actually be cheaper to buy ISU season tickets. Plus, they'd enjoy the added bonus of sitting beside educated fans who actually attend (or graduated from) one of the unniversities playing the game 8^)

My thought... if you are a fan, (a real fan) then you buy the season tickets and do not whine and complain.... We should all be happy that we have an AD that is actually trying to bring up the program and make efforts to do so... We had VandeVelde as an AD and he did nothing at all!!!! Sure, he kept ticket prices low, but he had to as he did nothing else to promote the Cyclone programs. Now we have someone trying to improve the program, and people complain that they have to pay some extra money...

If we want to move to a new level, we have to open the wallets a bit to help out. The program will not improve by sitting on our wallets and cheering for mediocrity.

    Just my 2 cents worth..

Re: Hawk fan response. 1st Post

I just got done talking to a friend who's an Iowa fan who seemed to be under the same impression.

There's some sort of crazy idea that this is being done because it's Iowa. Well, yes - but not because it's a Screw Iowa mentality. Because it's what Iowa fans have said all along - it's a guaranteed payday. And JP is cashing in more on that payday, or at least trying to. I'm sure he'll do the same next year with NU if it's remotely successful.

She went even as far as to think that there would be zero single game tickets, for any game. I had to explain to her that it's really not any different than it has been for the casual fan. Meaning -when was the last team either fanbase could walk up to the opposing team window an buy a ticket for this game? It's been a while in Iowa City, and sure wasn't '05 in Ames. That hasn't really changed. In fact, it might have just got EASIER (at least obvious) for Iowa fans to have direct access to tickets for the game. It's no different now for them to buy a season ticket themselves as opposed to them getting them through an ISU donor.

Stranger yet - this might work out in Iowa's favor!!! As it stands, the cheapest ticket for an Iowa fan is through their own allotment. How do you get in on that allotment? You have to be higher up the food chain. Now if you're a loyal Iowa fan, are you forking out $1400 to ISU for $280 of face value tickets? Nope, you'll up your I-Club donation $1100 to get in on your own alotment. And that serves your own purpose to help pay for your "per seat" assessment that Iowa is holding you hostage for.

Rather obtuse reasoning - but still factual.

A darkness covers Squawkland at Iowa City. Clouds drown out the sky as they roll over the earth. A loud thunder shouts across the sky. The rumbling gets closer and closer. Destroying everything in its path. The clouds break and they arrive. 4 Gods, 4 beings unlike this world has ever seen or known. They ride high on their steeds. The first spreads destruction throughout the land. Pitting Colleges against Colleges, Players against Players. His name is Chizik. The second wipes out mankind with the touch of a hand. Seen in only a black cloak, he is the last vision anyone sees and his name is Sanderson. The third makes the opposing athletes suffer for his amusement. Spreading pain and sickness in all there games during loses. Spreading his evil and his is Finnelly. The fourth and final wipes out the all contenders. Destroying earths playing fields. Screams of agony of defeat are all that is left. His name is McDermott. These 4 bring a wreakening that will bring this earth to its knees. These are the ones you fear, the ones you bow down to. Out of the dead of night the 4 Horseman ride.
