Little blurb I noticed in the Scrimmage write-up...

It mentioned that Lane Danielson was helping out with practice. I remember a conversation from last week talking about how A) Chizik and co did not make former players feel welcome, and B) how a lot of programs incorporated bringing former players back into the fold, and that this coincided with an up-tick in said program. Not saying that this guarantees us some success, or anything like that, but I noticed this and figured that, if anything, its a good sign.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

Re: Little blurb I noticed in the Scrimmage write-up...

It was coincidental that Lane was officiating. The guy in charge of the crew for Saturday was from Pella and one of the guys on his crew couldn't make it. Lane is a high school official in Iowa right now and that official asked him to step in. Didn't have anything to do with the ISU coaching staff.
Not saying I don't think its a good idea to have former greats around, just a coincidence with Lane on this particular Saturday

the officiating crews they bring in for practice are real officials from around the state and they use the spring to improve their skills similar to the football teams. I was at a spring game in Minnesota a few years ago where there was around 50 officials who had something to do with the game. After the game, they had a clinic and watched tape of the game to better themselves.

I heard (rumor so don't kill me) that Lane had a huge ego and was not well liked by his teammates during his last year at ISU. Anyone else hear anything similiar?

The crew was busy this weekend. I saw them also doing the Barnstormers game.

It certainly can't be a bad thing to have former players around.

Now to get the successful ones to empty their pockets

Disclaimer: They may already do that, I have no idea, but thought it worth mentioning.

    Heard the same.

After his senior year, McCarney came out and publicly said that the team really lacked leadership... You rarely heard Mac say a bad thing about the players or team so I think that says alot...

Never heard that about Lane, but I've heard it several times regarding Jack Whitvar (sp?).

I have got to know Lane pretty well over the last few years and though I can't attest to what he was like in college, I know him to be quite humble right now. Talking to him you would never know the guy set records at ISU.

I thought Lane, was selling medical supply equipment?

That 2002 team simply imploded. Something was definitely amiss in the team chemistry. I don't have any details regarding what exactly went wrong, but you could probably apply the old "smoke and fire" analogy.

Speaking of LD rumors, I once heard that he had the highest bench-press on the team. True?

Either last year or the year before, I can't remember which, there was an NFL offical doing our spring game.
