Through Cyclone Eyes: DirectTV vs Dish

Alright guys, I need some advise. Between Dish & DirectTV (HD)which is a better bet for Cyclone Sports? I have Dish and I believe there were times that games were on Direct but not on Dish.

Is there a reason go with one or the other?

Directv has the advantage but you'll probably end up paying more.

If it's sports you're after, DirecTV is what you want, so long as you're willing to pay for it.

I think there were at least 3 maybe 4 football games last year that were available on DirecTV but not Dish.

I will never have anything but DirecTV. The sports packages are awesome and I saw every conference basketball game this year.

I was able to see all 11 televised games last year on Direct, and during basketball season the weekend Big 12 games were televised on the sports pack on some of the RSN's, so I have been able to catch a ton of games. Would think it's going to be similar on dish, but not sure if they carry Fox College Sports, which is where several football games were televised this year.

DirecTV doesn't carry FCS either, but they do usually carry the FCS games on RSN alternate channels.

Ah I hadn't noticed that. It still looks like they don't carry all of the FCS programming, so its sort of part time.

I've had both (I have Direct TV now) and they are similar, but I was not impressed with Dish's customer service, or their installer for that matter. Programming is similar, but it does seem like more ISU games are available now than when I had Dish.

Why isnt Medicom an option. Go with Direct and hope they have made improvments in their HD boxes. Last I knew both had issues with their HD boxes.

Make sure you can get the following networks:

    FOOTBALL
FSN (the more regions, the better)
    Versus
    FCS
    ABC/ESPN/espn2/ESPNU/ESPN Classic

    BASKETBALL
    ESPN "family"
ESPN FullCourt (for the CTN and Big 12 Syndicated games)
    FSN (B12 WBB)

    OTHER
BTN (for every contest in Iowa City -- FB/MBB/WBB/WR)
Mtn (for the games at Utah and at Air Force)

FSN doesn't really matter so much for football, as they only really have two games per weekend usually, and the Big 12 game is almost always on all the RSNs. For football season, the RSNs are somewhat worthless, IMO, unless you're way into the Pac-10 (I'll admit I usually end up watching most of those games too).

I wanted to make no assumptions as to the location of the OP, despite what their profile may say. Live FSN coverage across multiple regions has gotten better, but it's still not guaranteed.

FSN Midwest, Southwest and Rocky Mountain are the three that can be counted on the most, given that they cover the majority of the Big 12 footprint. I know a lot of people that live in the northern one or two tiers of counties in Iowa that are subjected to FSN North and its non-Big 12 programming whims.
