What will recruits think about Cyclone fans when they read message boards like these?

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

The same thing they think about ANY TEAM 's fans when they read message boards for ANY TEAM.

ISU isn't unique in the message board world.

I grew up in Hawkeye land and still live here. The Hawkeye fans were so obnoxious when i went to Iowa State that I quite rooting for them. Do we want to stand out as something better or be like all the other teams. I do know that you are all awesome.

I have no idea what any recruits might think.

I do know what I think about this silly thread but I can't type it.

cjclone...don't beat your head against that brick wall. It will never stop and you're not going to change the world one person at a time. Even if you convince a few to tone it down, a message board called Cyclone Fanatic isn't exactly the low-hanging fruit. Start elsewhwere.

Also, as CyinCo mentioned, there's nothing any better or worse about our message boards than other schools. If recruits are reading these boards, fine. It's not going to be any different than anyone else's. They've got 99 other reasons to decide on a school so let's not take ourselves so seriously as to think we affect them at all. If you want to affect them, buy tickets for you and your friends and cheer like crazy at the games.

    Re: Recruits reading boards

This idea is pretty far out there, I admit. Maybe we should set up a whiner's forum that is not fully acessible to the general public. For example, a certain amount of credits/month are required to access this site. That way, Monty Burns would quickly be silenced because he would run out of credits, unless he somehow could replenish them by making positive posts on the public forums, and "outsiders" would not have access to our dirty laundry. This would probably be very high maintenance for the moderators.

The one thing that can hurt recruiting is when our message boards are all negative about our coaching staff, administration, and facilities, where some other message board may be mostly positive. I don't think that recruits get scared away because the fans are saying something negative, but it is a sign about how the program is doing.

    Re: Recruits reading boards

Every team's message boards are the same, so either get used to it or don't read them.

    That is a valid point.

Although I think on our site you would see some fair criticism, but also a lot of extremely loyal fans who care a lot about our athletic programs.

I see most criticism of our staff on here as being performance-based. Let's be honest, any recruit considering our program is going to know our record the past few years.

I don't see any criticism of our staff in terms of personality (effort put forth, ethics, treatment of player, etc). Those issues are what would turn off a recruit.
