    Attending a practice

I was going to try and sign up to attend this Friday's practice, but when I contacted the Football Office they said that practices weren't open to the public. I can't find anything where it says officially that the general public (or NCC members) are allowed to attend - anyone remember where that came from??? Wasn't it a Rhoads interview?

Many thanks in advance to anyone who finds it!

    Re: Attending a practice

If there was a practice open to the public, it'd only be 1 I would think. Are you sure you're not confusing this for the Spring Game?

I would assume these typically aren't open to the public, and I also think that if you actually heard how coaches speak to their players in practice, it'd be a different image of how they are on the TV and Radio Shows....

    Re: Attending a practice

I remember hearing a Coach Rhoads interview (applebees coaches show I believe) where he said practices where going to be open if you called ahead and got on a list.

This must have changed since then.

    Re: Attending a practice

I remember there being an article about practices being open to Cyclones. I couldn't figure out at the time if that meant Cyclone fans or ex-players or what.

    Re: Attending a practice

    FYI- From Mike Lacey...

Are you as excited about Football as I am? Can't wait for fall, or even for the Spring Game, and need a gridiron fix now? Want to see what is happening with Cyclone Football? Here is your chance.....Cyclone Football Spring Practice?

Cyclone Spring Practices are closed to the General Public, but not to the Cyclone Gridiron Club. Coach Rhoads "will open the gates" for CGC MEMBERS, their spouse and minor children.

Attached is the schedule of the practices. The Tuesday & Thursday practices are from 8:30-11 am. The Friday practices are in the evening and Saturday practices are in the afternoon/evening. You will need to call the Football office to check on practice times for Friday and Saturday .

So how will Coach Rhoads know to let you in?

    Here is the drill:

    1. Coach R's secretary, Betty Kepley, will have a list of all of the CGC members.

    2. Call Betty at 515/294-6721. Give her your name and she will check the list to see if you are a CGC member. If you are she will add your name, and the names of your family members who are attending, to the "pass list".

    3. "Check in" at the Indoor Practice Facility and give them your name.

    4. If your name is on the list you are in.

Do you know a special someone who wants to attend and is not a member? Here is the easy solution. Email that special someone the following URL address:

    https://www.cyclonegridironclub.com/membershipform.aspx

and tell him or her that if he or she wants to attend Spring Practice, they should be a member.

This address takes them directly to the CGC Member Registration page. Once they register as a member, they can attend the Spring Practices with, or maybe better yet for you, without you. The added bonus for you is that IF you tell them to list you as the "referring member", and they do...so be nice...you will have fulfilled the minimum of what we are asking every CGC member to do as a part of the CGC Membership Drive which is "Every Member Get A Member". The key to this? JUST ASK!

Best wishes to all and GO CYCLONES!!

    Mike

    Re: Attending a practice

Identify yourself as a coach at GR (assuming you are still there) and they will let you in. At least that;s how I've got in in the past.

    Re: Attending a practice

Thanks, I didn't know it was GridIron Club only. Not a member of the GridIron Club. I could try using my GR "credentials," but I was hoping to go with my Dad and he is also not a GIC member, nor is he a coach.

Wartknight, I'm still at GR, but may be moving to Grundy Center in the near future. I havne't decided yet if I'll stay at GR, or maybe start coaching at Grundy. Love that junior high ball.

Yes, Gladbrook Reinbeck. I've only been there for four years though, always at the junior high.

Gridiron memberships can be purchased for as little as $100. And you can bring in a family member. It's well worth it as you not only get to go to spring practices, there's a fall CGC scrimmage as well as tailgates in the fall.

Let me know if you want to join because they have a referral contest where current members who sign up new members get in a drawing for sideline passes. I'd be happy to share one of the passes if I win.

Sounds like the Gridiron Club is the only way to go for now. Hopefully something changes with the situation regarding former players.
