    ESPN: Calipari to Kentucky

    Story on ESPN:

Why would Calipari take the UK job at this point? He's got a great thing going at Memphis, and UK has made it very clear that their expectations are huge.

Memphis has turned into a top 10 program because of Calipari, and they're getting the nation's top ranked recruit next year. Is there any reason to think he can't continue to be a top team?

Doesn't he have the top class in the country signed at Memphis? Be nice to be that coach to replace him.

I see Memphis as a better program year in and year out anymore than Kentucky.

    Re: ESPN: Calipari to Kentucky?

If I'm him, I would just use the situation to get Memphis to pay me more and then stay put at Memphis. He is a really, really good situation at Memphis. They are always good. The stability makes recruits want to play there. I'd stay after I get the pay.

    Re: ESPN: Calipari to Kentucky?

He can win 25 games every year at Memphis and people will still say "Yeah, but it's Memphis, and Conference USA." Cal has a HUGE ego and wants out of Pitino's shadow, he wants to be known as the best coach of this era. The best way for him to do that is go to kentucky and make them forget all about Pitino...

Many would say that Kentucky basketball is in the same league as Notre Dame Football.

Or at the very least, look at a similar situation where Rich Rodriguez left West Virginia for Michigan. Same type of thing. I'm not saying he should leave, only that there is plenty of reasons for him to.

A lot of you guys apparently just do not understand why a guy like Calipari is so successful...he is driven and as such he is seeking out a challenge rather than running from it. The expectations at UK are precisely why a great coach goes there.

UK is a program just like UNC...they can be in the National Title hunt nearly every year...with the right coach. That is why they will not settle this time for a younger coach that has shot out of the gate well in his career (like Travis Ford...even though he has the UK pedigree). They are going to be just like Alabama when they hired Saban...they are going to identify their top choice and not take "no" for an answer.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Maybe Conference USA bores him. How do you get up for games in that league week in and week out?

I love it when people start something by telling me I don't understand. Really makes me want to commit to reading/listening to their opinion.

I will have no pity for him when he gets run out of Kentucky.

And you wonder why players are transferring so often these days.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

    Re: ESPN: Calipari to Kentucky?

If you can win at UMass and Memphis you can win at Kentucky. More pay, more exposure, better facilities, better boosters, tv time.
