    Expectations for Mens Program

I would like to see the Men's program reach the level of success of the womens program. This is not unreasonable. OK I have lowered my expectation from previous post. I do not think it is unreasonable to expect our Men to make the NCAA tournament most years and every 10 years make a deep run and make the Elite 8.

Before you comment, have you analyzed BF's record as coach? Are we a perennial powerhouse in women's basketball or does he put together a heck of a squad every so often?

Not impugning BF as he's as class as they come and runs a program we can all be proud of... Just curious is you've done your homework or are just spouting off.

    Re: Expectations for Mens Program

Thats kind of the goal, I would think. A deeper run now and then and maybe a few more elite 8s would be nice.

    Re: Expectations for Mens Program

We should have zero expectations so that when next season is the same or worse than the last three disasterous years, we won't all be so upset.

    Re: Expectations for Mens Program

The yearly expectations before Jamie Pollard arrived were a winning record, an upper division Big XII finish, a spot in the NCAA or at worst the NIT, and a chance at a good post season run. The expectations now that Jamie is here are to finish near .500 and not lose at home to South Dakota State.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

Monty, why don't you just go leave a flaming bag of poo on Pollard's doorstep. I think that would be good for you, and then maybe, just maybe you can write a post that doesn't complain about how bad of a job he has done.

    Re: Expectations for Mens Program

1.) Beat UNI and Drake every year. Teams over which we have every advantage possible.
2.) Do not, under any circumstance, lose to a cupcake team like SDSU at home! If you're going to schedule a weak non-conference schedule, then take care of business and don't let it backfire.
3.) Be competitive with Iowa...consistently winning at home and losing on the road is acceptable to me. Of course, i wouldn't complain about absolute domination
4.) Finish .500 in the Big 12. With teams like Nebraska, Baylor, Colorado, Texas Tech, K-State in the conference we should be able to reach 8 wins. It comes down to beating the teams we should, splitting some games with teams of similar caliber, and pulling off at least 1 upset.

We do these things and we'll likely end up in the tournament due to the strength and legitimacy of our conference.

These are extremely reasonable expectations in my opinion. If we do this consistently it will keep our fans engaged and should keep us competitive with recruiting. If we find ourselves in a position where this seems like pie-in-the-sky, we're in deep trouble.

    Re: Expectations for Mens Program

I expect all of the players to stay in Ames this summer, running, lifting, and playing ball. I see many more of Fennelly's players in the ISU gyms over the summer than I do GMac's.

What's wrong with being upset? Oh, the guys with the cardinal-and-gold glasses and kool-aid don't like it. Answered my own question.
