Thought this was an interesting feature. Here's the link below. Click on each of their "experts." Fran Franscilla gives Hilton props! Doug Gottleib?????? - go figure

Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2"

    Re: ESPN: Favorite Arenas

What is it with the hating of Doug Gottleib? Fran was the only person that gave credit to Hilton. So why not rip on the other guys too?

What - because Doug was honest in his assessment about our basketball team earlier this year - he's automatically scorned? I thought we were a better educated fanbase than that.

You're not even the first person to rip on Doug kentkel...so I'm not blazing the guns directly at you.

And maybe a problem is - one Cyclone fans sees another say Doug hates the Cyclones - then most believe it to be true. I enjoy listening to him - he's got a pretty good basketball mind.

    Re: ESPN: Favorite Arenas

Agreed...Gottleib is a good announcer, analyst, and even a good radio show fill-in for DP.

However, it's hard for him to put the OSU homerism aside. It's probably hard to do since he played there but he HAS to on a National Station like ESPN.

    Re: ESPN: Favorite Arenas

I'm fine with Gottlieb but I don't understand his pick of OU. He mentioned they only fill it 2 or 3 times a year but I don't think it's been that intimidating since Combover Tubbs was on the sidelines. I can understand why some people might (mistakenly, of course) pick Allen Fieldhouse or Gallagher-Oba over Hilton but there's no way any other Big 12 arena should be.

And on another note how desperate is ESPN to find some way to hype their games that they now have "Student Spirit Week." What makes this week special for student spirit? Am I missing something here?

If anyone watched part of Oklahoma's first conference game last week there's no way anyone would vote for them. The place looked 3/4 empty and horribly quiet.

    Re: ESPN: Favorite Arenas

He gave ISU props during halftime on Saturday. Said it was "unbelievable" the improvement in the team.

He's taken shots at ISU in the past. For me, I just remember him being rather the punk while at OSU and especially during the semi's in '00 (I think I got that right)

But he does a good job in the studio, especially lately.

Everybody at least get in there and vote once. All you have to do is vote ISU #1 then pick 4 more and you can vote. I'd suggest oklahome, arkansas, and some of the lesser schools because they are behind us :)

Let's get at least into the top ten!!

    ISUFAN22 WROTE:
What is it with the hating of Doug Gottleib?

I in no way hate Doug Gottleib! I did not give him an angry "Smiley" - I gave him the perplexing "Smiley." I should have explained myself. I chose D.G. to single out because of his inclusion of OU as a tough venue in which to play. I realize that he is a former OSU player, and the atmosphere at OU in the Sooner-Okie State series would be "electrifying." I just feel that there are other venues where the atmosphere is more consistently "electrifying" regardless of the opponent. And, BTW, I think for myself -- I don't diss on people because of the views others have of an individual.
