    Old Computer File Problem

So my roommates computer crashed a couple of weeks ago and he purchased a laptop. We took his old drive and hooked it up onto an external hard drive case. We are trying to access his old file but they say he doesn't have permission. Is there a way to gain access to those files? I am thinking I need to go into the permissions of the files but not completely sure.

Yeah, I had that same issue when I restored some files after a crash. You have to take ownership of the file. I can't remember how, just google the error message.

    Re: Old Computer File Problem

Open windows explorer then click on Tools->Folder Options

    Click on the View Tab.

Scroll to the bottom and deselect (uncheck) the option that reads 'use simple file sharing'

This will allow you to see the security tab when viewing the properties of a file/folder.

Then you right click the folder, sharing and security, security, advanced, owner, select your user.
