    AWA Wrestling

Yes!!! AWA Wrestling on ESPN Classic!

I used to watch this on ESPN after school, when they alternated with World Class Championship Wrestling.

Wayne "the Train" Bloom vs. Baron Von Raschke in a Greco-Roman match. This will be fun!

Did anybody else watch this? Favorite moments?

My favorite is Curt Hennig winning the World Title from Nick Bockwinkel after hitting him with a roll of dimes. The roll exploded, there are dimes all over the ring, and the ref claimed he couldn't see anything.

    Re: AWA Wrestling

This is one of their worst episodes. I hadn't seen the Team Challenge series before, but had heard that it was the AWAs last straw. I can see why. I can't turn this into anything positive. Horrible stuff.

    Re: AWA Wrestling

I'm sure everybody saw the story a few weeks ago about the former wrestler with Alzheimers who body-slammed his nursing home room-mate (apologies if there was a thread about it, I never saw one but I didn't search). Very sad situation, neither guy could remember the even a few hours after it happened. I think the guy (bodyslammer) in question used to own that organization.

Impressive that an 80 year old could body-slam anybody, but sad nonetheless.

It's understandable that the guy who got body slammed didn't remember, considering he was dead and all.

Verne Gagne was the "aggressor," and he did own the AWA. He trained Ric Flair for his start in the business.

He didn't die right away. He was conscious and was able to have a conversation.

He's the guy that really started wrestling as it is.

Yup. Somehow, I've never seen one of his matches, at least not from his prime.

When Greg was a main event guy, that never seemed to fit. Maybe because he wasn't very good.

My favorite was Baron Von Raschke. I lived in omaha from 78-83 and awa was very prominent there. I remember when Hulk Hogan started as Terrible Terry or something like that. Good memories. Baron was from Omaha and taught at one of the local high schools. Baron and Mad Dog the best tag team ever.
