No single game tickets means not ever!!

    To end the speculatiion:

ISU will only allow season tickets for the IA game. They will not release single tickets later, to anyone. They will leave the seats empty instead. They will not be made available to NCC members or anyone else, at any time.

This directly from Pollard a few minuts ago. I also have permission to pass along what I stated above.

Re: No single game tickets means not ever!!

It would kind of blow his cover to say that wasn't the case. As others have mentioned though, there is no way they leave 25 thousand empty seats. I don't really like this tactic as it will make Pollard lose credibility after they do put single game tickets up for sale.

It would make more sense to just say the order they will be offered in (presumably big donors first) and then to jack the price on whatever might be left over.

Yeah, he is not going to come out and say, "Hey, dont worry, we will release tickets the week before the game." His plan is to try to increase season ticket sales, and it a genious method if you ask me. However, if it doers not work, and there are tickets remaining, they WILL be sold.

So long as Hawk fans don't get them, I think that is a good thing. Surely JP must have something planned.

also, realize that they are saying "single" game tickets. I'm sure they'll package them with a couple other games.

Re: No single game tickets means not ever!!

I think it's great because it forces ISU fans to pony up for season tickets and it's also going to force the diehard Iowa fan to do something they hate to do: support ISU athletics if they want to attend that game.

I will bet you this though, 2 weeks before that game if there are still a lot of tickets to be had NCC members almost have to be offered the chance to purchase aditional game tickets. I don't see Pollard swallowing 10,000+ possible ticket sales to have Jack Trice not packed to the brim for a big rival game like that. He'll tell you all now he won't budge and try all he can to scare $350 out of anyone that wants to be at that game but you can't tell me if he has 10k seats left he doesn't open the sales up at say $70+ a ticket and make around $700,000 in ticket sales on that?

Let's say that 10k Hawk fans want to see this game so bad they'll buy season tickets. I'm sure a lot of them are already looking at the $125 or $150 options but only so many of those are available. So I'm going to use $250 as my middle ground saying that Hawk Fans on the average will pay that based on what kind of season ticket they buy. Obviously some of them will try to sell the rest of the seats off (especially the ones that pay $350) but let's say 10K Hawk fans buy season tickets. That's roughly 2.5 mil in season ticket sales we might not otherwise have. Subtract the $700,000 estimate from the single game tickets and you are looking at around $1.8 mil of ticket sales you might not of had without this new policy.

Granted these are all hypothetical numbers but Pollard is a numbers guy and I'm sure this is close to what he was thinking when crunching the numbers and I think it's pure genius. Force Hawk fans to pay up for season tickets which in return will help us upgrade our facilities and be able to compete at the same level with them.

i think jp is a pretty straight shooter(he lets people believe what they want sometime in coaching searches). any good atheletic director is going to ruffle some feathers of alumni and donors, particularly with respect to seating, ect. happens at every major program.

Re: No single game tickets means not ever!!

They should have made it that only NCC members can buy individual tickets. This would drive up membership and sell tickets. Empty seats don't buy hotdogs and ice cold beverages. I hope it works....

Re: No single game tickets means not ever!!

    Consider this...

ISU releases season tickets and allows NCC members to buy extra Iowa game tickets at the same time. Season ticket sales go through the roof with the new staff, fan excitement, etc. Also, most fans request their maximum allowed additional Iowa game tickets.

Eventually this would start impacting the number/location of season tickets that could be sold. While not likely, it isn't impossible - after a coaching change it's hard to anticipate what fans will do.

I think it's a smart move. Do I think it could've been noted that Iowa game tickets will be released later? Yeah. They decided to role it out differently though and that's their choice.

I do think a great point was made earlier and should be drove home again. They said single game Iowa tickets wouldn't be sold. I anticipate the Iowa game tickets to be released yet you have to buy tickets to another game or two - in a 3 pack or something.

If they do that, yet another smart move.
