Pretty jealous of Mizzou this morning

I'm not gonna lie to you guys - I am pretty envious of their overall program right now. Back in 2004 we were ahead of Mizzou in both Basketball and Football, and we all know what has happened since: They have made huge strides in both sports while we have regressed.

I still support Mac, but look at what Anderson has accomplished with Mizzou basketball in the same time frame as Mac. They were hired at the same time, and the cupboard was bare at both institutions (don't kid yourselves, Snyder left that program in shambles), but Anderson has succeeeded in big ways while we close out another losing season.

I was almost numb watching Mizzou dismantle Memphis last night - it was a sad experience to remember our own run to the Elite 8 only to know what the following 8 years brought.

    Tough times for us Clones.

I was having very similar thoughts while watching Mizzou beat Memphis last night. They have definitely turned things around... time for Iowa State to do the same.

I'm sure you'll get numerous replies about how Mizzou wasn't nearly as bad off as ISU, how Mizzou has so many advantages over ISU, blah, blah, blah.

The bottom line is that Mizzou hired a coach who understood what was needed to win at the major conference level. ISU didn't, and now ISU is a couple of years behind. Hopefully, ISU's coach has figured it out...

On a brighter note, atleast we dont' have to wear their uniforms. That's the same color inside my 8 week old daughter's diapers.

McDermott just isn't half the coach Mike Anderson is. Let's just hope he gets better, as we're stuck with him for another 6 years... If Brackins comes back, we'll be competitive, and it will finally be a step in the right direction.

Re: Pretty jealous of Mizzou this morning

I agree that it was pretty frustrating, knowing that we couldn't be any more polar opposite of Missouri.

We play a slow and go, deliberate style that relies on defense.

Mizzou plays an aggressive, attacking style that uses turnovers and up-tempo.

It is obvious which one works better . . .

You look at all the teams in the sweet 16, and most of them play a geared up, aggressive style of basketball. The only one left that really doesn't play up-temp and aggressive is Michigan State, and I think Kansas takes them out tonight.

Re: Pretty jealous of Mizzou this morning

As recently as last year, there were many voices wanting Anderson out at MU (sound familiar??).

Anderson installed a very different system than what Snyder ran and it took awhile for the players to "get it". I see MU's success as a positive for ISU rather than a negative because it shows what can happen when a coach is given time to do it his way and when the program becomes mature enough to have major contributors that are upperclassmen (Carroll and Lyons are seniors, Tiller is a junior).

I wonder how Missouri will be next year? Do they have some solids coming in?

Them. Could end nicely for them.

I could get on board with the feeling that a great Big 12 made us look worse than we really are...if we had not lost some of those silly non-conference games.

Well, if you read the "who do you root for" thread from earlier in the week, it was proposed that a strong showing by the Big 12 hurts ISU recruiting, so I guess we as ISU faithful should be pulling for OU, KU, and MU to fail, and fail miserably.

Not what I meant. I speak of the B12 as an us (b12) vs them thing. Not us (ISU).
