Big 12 Dominance in the NCAA Tournament

We hear everything about how solid the Big East is....and clearly that conference has been dominant this year. However, the NCAA tournament has clearly shown that the Big 12 is a close second. With Missouri advancing to the Elite Eight tonight the Big 12 is now 10-3 in the NCAA tournament. If Kansas can beat Michigan State tomorrow night and Oklahoma can beat Syracuse it could very well be 4 Big East teams and 3 Big 12 teams in the Elite Eight. This can only be a great selling point for future recruits...opportunity to play against the best.

Here are your records for the Top 4 Conferences in the Tournament:

Big East 13-2 (Louisville, UConn, Pittsburgh, Villanova and Syracuse)
Big 12 10-3 (Kansas, Mizzou, Oklahoma)
    Big 10 6-6 (Michigan State)
    ACC 5-5 (North Carolina)

I think it's pretty clear who the top two conferences in the country are...

Also if Oklahoma beats Syracuse and Louisville and Kansas win, it will be 14-3 and 12-3 for the records.

Never, ever would have thought even midway through the season the Big 12 would do this well in the tournament. But I picked most of them to do well in my bracket. I think KU should handle MSU. The OU-Syracuse game should be a good one.

Where are the Hawkeye fans now to tell us that it's not even a contest between the Big Televen and the Big 12?

The OU guards are going to HAVE to step up for them to have a chance against Syracuse...

Calipari was just on ESPN talking about how hard it is to prepare for Mizzou. said it's impossible to simulate their style of play in practice

Kinda thuggy? Mizzou has gotten in all sorts of trouble in the last 3 years but no one points that out when they talk about Anderson's AWESOME 3 year turn around. Just another example that winning heals all!!

Yep, this thread has just been pwned.

I will say Mizzou has been quite a pleasant surprise for the big 12, but I just don't see the big 12 not being one of the most competitive conferences in football and basketball for quite some time, mostly do the the influx of texas schools and texas kids/talent.

I see two losses coming the Big 12's way tomorrow. However, it's clear that no matter what happens, we are a distant 2nd behind the Big East and the ACC was overrated.

    Can't disagree -- it isn't a contest.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

Re: Big 12 Dominance in the NCAA Tournament

Big 12 has had a surprisingly solid showing, gotta admit. Big Ten has had some head scratchers. Minnesota really let me down. I also think Michigan was a little gun-shy against OU. I was actually surprised that UW played so well against FSU.

    Gotta love March Madness.

If they lose twice tomorrow, yes there will be some distance, but I don't see Kansas and Oklahoma both losing. If both KU and OU win, the race tightens up even more.
