    Cardinals hire Steelers O.C. Whisenhunt

    ESPN.com link

IMO, a pretty good hire for Arizona. I'm surprised he's not the next Pittsburgh coach and they let him slip away without having their guy in place. Perhaps the Steelers were not as interested in him as the media speculated.

Re: Cardinals hire Steelers O.C. Whisenhunt

Speaking of new hires, I find it interesting that almost all people mentioned for the iowa state football job including Brian Kelly, Harbaugh, and Kragthorpe, did take a position elsehwere except for Jy Norvell of Nebraska. Even the Tuksa/Houston /Rice jobs were all in play I bet he will have have a long season with BillC after his name was mentioned for several jobs. Looks like if your name is mentioned, you really are wantinbg to move on except for Houston Nutt of Arkasas

So is KirkF in the mix? Look at what one disgruntled ESPN Pitt board member wrote today:
"I'm not big on this coaches search thing but what the hell are the rooneys' thinking about..i don't know who i would want now wiz is gone and he supposed to be some offensive genius i'm worried now about this team..watching the bears play i wasn't excited about there defensive scheme so i'm not sold on riverea like ebveryone else...your thoughts?"

Already wishing Cowher was back. Maybe Kirk has a shot. McC could work for him also.

Re: Cardinals hire Steelers O.C. Whisenhunt

I was thinking this morning that maybe the Steelers will do a JP thing and hire a "mystery" candidate. Ferentz would fit that profile. While there was early speculation about Ferentz and possible interest...the media has not said there was an interview. Anything could happen. Maybe he is still in the mix...

As a Steeler fan I was hoping for Wisenhunt to get the job. Oh well...the other guy that interests me after reading about him and seeing some media interviews is Mike Tomlin (Vikings D-coordinator). Any Vikes fans out there...what is this guy all about? Potential head coach somewhere soon?

Re: Cardinals hire Steelers O.C. Whisenhunt

I think it's Russ Grimm and they told Whisenhunt as much, which is why he took the Cardinals gig.

I'm not 100% on Grimm since they brought in Gailey this weekend (ugh) -but I'm fairly sure they told Wiz that it wasn't him and he should pursue the Cards job.

Ferentz is NOT coming, I think they are done interviewing.
