Re: Big 12 Rookie of the Week

I think he deserved it this week. Limited his number of turnovers - especially the stupid ones. Scored points at the right times to help ISU beat the Huskers and hang with Kansas.

3 vs. Nebraska and 4 vs. Kansas. 2 turnovers under his season average of 5.4.

Re: Big 12 Rookie of the Week

The only one I remember is the very crucial one in OT that Rush took back for an uncontested dunk.

I'm not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing that it's the only one I remember.

That was definately the part of his game that needed the most improving. It is good to see it going down, especially in conference play.

It was a killer turnover. He forced the action by trying to dribble through two people.

Then Dodie elected to pass up a good shot and travelled. Next time Dodie will go ahead and take the shot.

The team is getting better. Need Rahshon to take more shots and improve his dribbling. I would like to see someone who can dribble into and out of the lane in addition to Mike.

Let's nominate Jiri for the Comeback Big 12 Player of the Year award or Most Improved. Frankly, I have not seen that many players improve so much from non conference to the conference. If WM was coaching, he would still be bombing threes.

Ditto that. That's part of the reason Mike has a larger number of turnovers. He's about the only guy that can create his own shot off the dribble. That won't always work out.

I was frustrated with the late turnover too that led to the dunk. Mike was again trying to create a needed shot though...too bad it didn't work out.

I agree completely although I've gotten some bad comments from people that for some reason want to defend Wayne Morgan still when I say things like this. That's the biggest difference I have seen with this team so far is they continue to improve as the season goes on. Mac also does a lot of great in-game coaching and is always pulling guys aside to discuss mistakes and such.

In hindsight I'm glad Iowa hasn't fired Alford yet because Mac was sort of slated as the #1 choice as his replacement at one point. So glad we got him before someone else did!

Iowa may be worse next year after Hakluska retires. The cupboard appears bare.

    That was Corey McIntosh.

Re: Big 12 Rookie of the Week

taylor def. deserves this, he has improved, i do wish McIntosh would take more shots and try to drive the lane more, because right now teams dont consider him a threat

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

It didn't look to me that MT lost the dribble or was careless with the ball on that crucial play. It looked more like that Rush got away with hooking MT's forearm and pulling it away from the ball. He had split the double team and was in position to attack the basket if he hadn't gotten hooked. Of course, shooting FT's in that situation may not have been our best option either.

Re: Big 12 Rookie of the Week

I ended up taping overtime, so I'd personally like to go back and look at it again to see if it was a foul or not when Taylor had the ball stripped from him. That was definitely a killer.

Taylor can either kill you or save you, and sometimes in the same game. That play is a perfect example, but then again if we make free throws, it's a moot point anyway.
