Who starts at the 2 next year?

Assuming Diante starts at the point and Gilstrap on one of the wings, who else do you think?

More times than not this past year, we had to call on Sean Haluska to come in because we couldn't defend. Who, among this group, can defend? Christopherson, Boozer, Eik, Lucca, Colvin, D-Buck. Perhaps a better question - Who among these players offers the best combination of wing defense, perimeter shooting, dribble drive skill and overall ball handling ability, and toughness? We seem to have a collection of specialists - guys who do one thing fairly well but not everything. For matter, Diante falls into that description as well, but gotta assume he will start based on experience and improvement this past season alone.

Beginning the year I'm sure Lucca starts at the 2

As the year goes on I would much rather see Buckley at PG and Diante at the 2

I'm curious. You're the second person to say Lucca. Do you really feel we have enough ballhandling and perimeter defense with Lucca and Gilstrap in there together? Also, keep in mind how poorly Diante defended last year. Your thoughts.

I would rather see DG splitting time with Buckley at the point than having DG start at the 2.

Re: Who starts at the 2 next year?

I guess I thought DG was a pretty solid defender.

Lucca moved a little better toward the end of the year and gives us our best outside threat.

I think Gilstrap will handle the ball much better than our last SF types.

Otherwise, I think it's just the best we have.

Hopefully it will be Colvin by the time we start Conference play.

Re: Who starts at the 2 next year?

Experience wins out here. Colvin would have to be NBA material to beat out DG and Buckley as a true Freshman. Only my opinion. Hope he is, but not likely as a freshmen.
    DG
    LS
    Gilstrap
    Brackins
    Hamilton

The difference is all the sudden we are getting deeper and more athletic. I still think we are missing a big time banger down low though.

Seem like every good team has a beast down low.

Agreed. One of them has to step up and hit a 3 point shot for once in their life if they're going to play the 2. Having a 2 guard that isn't a threat to shoot is a waste of space on the floor.

Someone else said it, experience trumps all (at least it has thus far under GMac)

I would much rather Boozer start than Lucca since he at least makes hustle plays, but I'm sure Lucca will start come game 1 of next season

Buckley seems to have a decent stroke from outside, he just didn't use it much because he had more opportunities to cut inside since other teams didn't deny our guards that ability

    Staiger.

Think about his better, hotter shooting games- if he can gain consistency, a guy who can make 4-5 3 pointers a night is a huge problem for defenses.

he will need to stay consistent and accurate enough to stay in the starting lineup, hopefully that happens, otherwise he will need to learn to handle and drive better than he does, get some new shotfake moves or something, otherwise he is still lacking something worth keeping him off the bench and being a 6 or 7 man.

    I guy like him wouldn't be a bad 6...

Part of his success as a shooter could be helped by putting other guys on the floor who can slash. If defenses have to constantly collapse on ball- he could see a lot of open shots.
