    Gilstrap

Hey this might be a stupid question but is it true that we only get 1 year out of Gilstrap? If so, it almost is like a tease, because what if he does good for us, then we just let him go... IDK maybe I am just a ****, but I think its almost a waste of a scholarship since we dont get a whole lot out of him, we could have easily went after a high recruit who we could have develop....

I'll take a tease if he can take us to the promise land, the NCAA tournament.

    Re: Gilstrap

If CB stays, I look at Gilstrap as a "free agent" signing to get us over the top. If he helps us get to the tourney, its very much worth it.

    Re: Gilstrap

The staff must feel he is going to be a difference maker and worth only having for one year. If having him gets this team to the NCAA toury vs not having him and not going, it is worth it.

Is it any different than having a one and done player?

    Re: Gilstrap

I'll take the one year bridge. I think he's intended to bridge the gap between now and HB/Ejim.

I'm really looking forward to seeing him out there!

    Re: Gilstrap

Gilstrap has to be good or Mac would not have bothered. Would you refuse to recruit a "one and done" high school kid? Could Harrison Barnes be a "one and done"?

    Re: Gilstrap

I'll take him, it only takes one good season to get back on the recruit map, and if this works and gets us some excitement back into the program, then it works out well. He gets 2 seasons, then good times may be back.

    Re: Gilstrap

I don't think our program is in a position to wait and develop players for several reasons. Just off the top of my head, here are a few:

1.) Bringing in even one more instant impact player could be the difference between someone like CB deciding to give it another year or not.
2.) Recruiting is a lot about momentum and we can't afford another year in the cellar. Even a one-and-done in the NCAA tournament helps us land better players in the future.
3.) This could also be self-preservation on McD's part. If you haven't noticed , fans here on CF are growing a little impatient with our performance. A trip to the tourney might stop the bleeding.

Long story short, I think you take the best talent you can get every year. Whether it's a JUCO guy with one year of eligibility or someone with NBA potential who might only stay one year, I think you take them. We'll always be able to bring in players who can be developed.

Good times might be back with one season!!!

I would really love to spend my March Madness obsession next year with some Cyclone action on the screen. Or maybe on the wall thanks to my projector!

I agree. I think this year's addition will allow the guys meant to be role players to develop as role players, and allow guys like Hamilton and Pomlee to develop without having to be the man. Good increase in talent that provides the other guys the time they need to develop. This could be a really beautiful thing, and makes us a lot more athletic and dangerous.
