    Personnel Changes for Texas

Fennelly said in the DMR story there would be personnel changes for the Texas game.

    Speculating here --
Ezell losses her starting spot due to lack of scoring, I'm guessing replaced by Florzak. Fennelly said on the radio about Lacey that, "she didn't want to play tonight (Ok. State)". I'm sure he meant her effort by the fact that she was a fouling machine in the few minutes she was out there. So, she won't be rewarded with a start in the next game.

The interesting question is, does he go further than that? If I look at each individual players stats over that last few games, I could make a case for an entirely new starting five (with possible exception of Wieben), but who the replacements be??? It won't happen because that is cliff jumper mentality, but I am pretty confident Ezell won't be the only one of the current starters sitting on the bench at the start of the Texas game.

My other prediction is Nisleit finds her way into the starting lineup replacing Ross.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

    Re: Personnel Changes for Texas

I agree with sitting Ross merely to motivate her to come out strong. That said, for being undersized she has performed well until the conference season begun. Despite being bothered by her toe, and except for her in-bound play, Lyndsey played well, so her spot is safe. Wieben is safe. The rest? Who knows.

According to the box scores, LM is shooting 8-42 from the field over the last 3 games (2-11, 1-10, 5-21). Given the way ISU's offense is oriented, it's tough to see how ISU can win with that kind of shooting % from the guard position.

I was merely talking about the OSU game where Lyndsey shot 4-12 from three point land with 8 rebounds and 8 assits and 2 steals while playing 40 minutes with an injured toe.

Yep, you got me, BF should bench any player with that stat line.

Well, my friend, you can roll your eyes all you want, but if LM is going to take 21 shots a game, she needs to make more than 5 of them in order for ISU to win conference games. In conference, LM is shooting 10-52 overall, and 5-25 from 3-pt land.

I've had that toe injury (in addition to many others over the years), and I know how it messes up one's game. That being said, it's not feasible for LM to continue shooting the number of shots that she does while only hitting 25% of them. If she needs to be on the floor to run the team, then BF needs to devise a scheme that takes the shooting load off of her until her shot comes back.

Of course, if nobody on the team can shoot any better or help out LM while she's hurting, then I guess there is nothing else for her to do but keep on shooting and hope for the best.

    Re: Personnel Changes for Texas

Interesting discussion above. Since I started this all I'll pipe in with more opinions.
Medders - She hasn't been great since Big 12 play started. That said, an ISU team that has a starting 5 without Medders may as well skip wearing the Iowa State uniforms. It would be sacrilege.
Rohnovde - Her scoring is streaky, but she is hands down the best defender on the team. I bet she takes two charges a game.
Wieben - The most consistent scorer right now.
Ross - Scoring has tapered off in conference play and she has had some silly frustration fouls. She may not start for motivation purposes and to get to see the flow of the game.
Ezell - Scoring has tapered off since she got re-inserted into starting 5 after getting benched earlier. I'd love to see her get re-motivated again. She's one of my favorites. She's got a pure shot and seems to have a bit of mean streak, which this team needs.
The rest - Here is where we really need the help. Nisleit brings great effort, but always seems to be the last scoring option. And the freshmen... well they've been freshmen. You never know what they're gonna do.

What is up with Rachel? She has hardly seen the court lately.

On the other hand, RP is not going to get any better sitting on the bench, and things aren't exactly going great guns right now, so why not play her a few minutes a game? She's the only real center ISU has. I'd like to see her get at least 5 minutes a game (more if possible), and a few post-up attempts on the offensive end, just to let her get beat around and toughened up by the Big 12 centers.

    Re: Personnel Changes for Texas

I don't see a lot of women's games and I know we're a finese team...but, wow....after watching Saturday's game......I've possibly never watched a softer team in my life....I half expected to see Wayne Morgan on the sideline? I see a lot of positive comments about Weiben above......but come on, can she really guard anyone? I'm very down about the women's team....somebody pick me up.

    Finesse team = round peg
Big 12 (or most major conferences) = square hole

It's not that you can't force a round peg into a square hole, but it will take one hec of a hammer, or some modification of the peg, because the square hole won't be changing anytime soon...

After reading some of BF's recent comments, I think he is right there with you...
