    Cyclone Fanatics out of work

So I've been out of work longer than I would have hoped and thinking I gotta get creative to find a job. Anyone else in the same boat.

My thought was maybe we could use CF to help those of us without employment find a job. Ideas? (feel free to add some)

    - Share job placement firms and reviews. Maybe we can stay away from "bad" reviews and just go with positive.

    - Sharing open jobs you may have found or seen.

    - Mgrs looking for good people (hey if we're a Cyclone fan that's a huge get right there) feel free to post

I'm in IT and located in Des Moines so I'd be biased towards this market.

I like being out of work. I do independent urban development analysis, and did about 80% of my work from home. I miss the comp. trips to the fine cities of America, but I enjoy hanging out with my 1 year old daughter more. And I'm still getting paid for previous contracts.

I have enjoyed spending time with the fam but the whole "stay at home dad" role doesn't suit me. I go stir crazy sitting around the house.

Toot my horn? I worked my butt so I could put myself in a position to remain above water even when I have zero work coming my way for at least 3 months.

Winter sucks, but when the weather is nice, sitting at home is not my primary objective.

My crow tastes delicious. I misread the wording in your post and saw "do work from home" instead of "did".

    My fault bud.

Re: Cyclone Fanatics out of work

I got laid off back in '02, during the last economic downturn. I really feel for you guys. Took me 7 months to find work again.

As for openings, my company is looking for an experienced VA mortgage underwriter. PM if that fits the bill for anyone. Being in banking -that's about it right now. This job is in Urbandale, but our bank in HQ'd in Milwaukee. If anyone is up there is looking for work, PM me with what you do, and I'll take a look at what's available.

    Best of luck to all.

Not sure how much is around Iowa but look into companies servicing the low cost market. For example, a company here in MI that produces paper plates and cups is having record sales in this economy. Companies like ALDI are building stores left and right.

The industry to really look into is renewable energies though. Look into solar and wind energy companies.

My wife informed me that if I don't get any real work in the next few months, I swill be pouring drinks or working a table at the Riverside Casino.

    I'll take it.

I'm not out of work yet, but will be within the next month or two. I'm in accounting, but I don't have a CPA.

Might be because I'm young and immature, but working at a bar would be awesome. Watch the NCAA Tourny with baseball on its way... look at fine women... and test some of the beers to make sure they aren't poisoned :)
I couldn't lose! Now I just gotta learn how to be a bartender and all the drinks...

Re: Cyclone Fanatics out of work

I have a job that I very much enjoy, and won't presume to know how I would react if it were me without a job. I have been through it via being a spouse and sibling, but it's not the same. My best wishes to you.

I listened to an interesting take on today's economic situation by futurist Lowell Catlett. I know some like him and his views, others don't. If you're interested in hearing him talk about what similar economic circumstances meant in the past (and can mentally edit out ag and farm references that don't pertain to you) here's the URL on SwineCast.com SwineCast | SwineCast. Your Connection. At Your Convenience. Click on that link under recent shows. It's about 16 min. total.
