    Re: Buick dethrones Lexus

I don't think people will realize how huge this really is. Lexus came onto the scene in 1989 and has held the top spot for the last 20 years. Big ups to Buick and GM.

Another thing to consider is I believe this would be based on 2006 models and Ford owned Jaguar at the time.

It probably also helps that Buick had like 2 or 3 models at the time. Not taking anything away because it is huge.

Another big thing is that this is JD powers long term study (3 years) not their shorter ones that just focus on a few months.

Good for GM. Now if they could get somebody that doesn't get AARP discounts to buy a Buick, they'd be set!

    Re: Buick dethrones Lexus

Never driven a Lexus SUV, but after having owned a Buick Rainier for 2 years now, I don't see how a Lexus wouldn't be better. I'm sure a Lexus is much quieter, as the Rainier might have the worst wind-noise of any vehicle I've ever been in. Any time you're in a crosswind of more than 20mph, it sounds like you're driving through a damn hurricane. And we all know the winds in Neb/Iowa are never above 20mph.

The problem is that the door frame is slightly higher than where it meets the roof, so any crosswind catches the vehicle right there and creates noise. It might be the worst design flaw I've ever seen, and unfortunately I didn't notice (or hear) it until a few weeks after purchase. It's very annoying, especially driving on I-80 between Omaha and DM, where the wind is either 30mph from the north or south, depending on the season.

EDIT: for BryceC, I'm only 32.

Yeah they have a little image issue that is well justified. They need something like the Buick Grand National to spark interest. I do like the styling of their one SUV though.

I guess they know their market. Older people who want a quiet, nice riding, and reliable car. I'd say most of their customers would hate the ride of cars like BMW.

My wife has a similar issue with her Nissan Roque but it's due to the rack things on the top of the vehicle and it only happens in certain conditions at 80+ mph.

I was just joking. I really am happy for GM, they need some good publicity. I actually like Buick's as well, they are just too spendy for my tastes, but I'm incredibly cheap.

I worry Toyota is spreading themselves too thin, much like the US automakers. Too many models and too many lines. If they arent careful they will be having the same issues as GM.

At first I thought that was the case as our Rainier has the luggage rack thing on top too. But in the Rainier's case, it's definitely the door, because in very high winds you can actually see a very small amount of daylight between the door and frame. The wind literally pulls the door away from the frame, albeit very slightly, but it's enough to create a tremendous amount of noise.

If this isn't a common problem with the Rainier I would be inclined to make the dealership do something about it.

Bought it used, no warranty. Highly doubt they'll even consider doing anything about it. Besides, there's really nothing that can be done about it, it's an obvious design flaw as it occurs on both the front driver and passenger doors.

    Re: Buick dethrones Lexus

I actually saw a Buick (the sister to the Acadia SUV) and was impressed with it's styling. Props to GM for trying to be better.

I still absolutely LOVE the commercial ripping the "man step" on the Ford truck.

Love those cars. Only problem is that they have the reliability of a model t.
