    East Tennessee State

A few thoughts looking at their stats:

They are a high-scoring team. This might work to our advantage since there's no way they'll hang 80 on us, so it'll be a type of game they might not be used to playing.

They have two players averaging over 16 ppg -- Evans, a 5'11" G/F and Wiles, a 5'10" G. Evans also averages over 10 rebounds per game. Their tallest player is Belcher, a 6'2" F who is their third-leading scorer and second-leading rebounder.

They have a very poor assist/to ratio -- 441 to 577. They do force a lot of turnovers, so I'm guessing they like to play in transition. That's another plus for us, as we are very good at limiting our opponents' transition opportunities.

They are a bit below average at shooting threes: 152 made at a 30.4% clip. They do spread the threes around, so it looks like we can't sag off any of the starters other than Belcher. Two of the four reserves we'll likely see haven't attempted a three this year.

They have an overall FG% almost as bad as ours.

They don't have many blocked shots, and with their height disadvantage hopefully Wieben can have a good game.

I was thinking the same thing, good post play and scoring would help win this game.

Yeah - like Hampton. I'll bet we see the clip of their coach being lifted in the air again this year.

I will say that there is more and more parity in the women's game all the time. It used to be that you could go to the bank on 15/16 of the top four seeds getting to the sweet 16.

Parity, in the long run, is a good thing.

    Re: East Tennessee State

Anybody notice in the video of the women getting the news of who they will be playing, that Heather Ezell didn't have a wrap or bandage on either hand. Thinking it was her right hand that she had a fracture in and surprised to see nothing on that hand. I thought some newspaper said she had a minor fracture, apparently not as bad.

That is a good sign for her playing ability as we need her hot hand in every game.

At Bill Fennelley's lunch talk today, he said that if ISU were playing tonight Heather would play. She does have a "black thing" as he put it, on her wrist, but she's ready and able to play.

    Posted from another thread ..................

They are a smaller school, but in their non-conference pre-season, they play the bigger conferences.
They lost to Evansville by 10 and Evansville is the Missouri Valley Conference champion and is going to the dance.
They lost to Chatanooga by 6, who went 23-9 and is going to the NIT.
They lost to #13 Vanderbilt by 11, and they are going to the dance.

They lost to Wake Forest (who went 22-10) by 6, and Wake lost to #4 in the nation Maryland by 2 points in the ACC Tournament.

They beat Kentucky at Kentucky by 9 and Kentucky went 15-15 in their strong conference.
They won 17 of their last 21 games.

I guess I'm just sayin' ................. this may not be a gimmee.
    Just my opinion of course.

"... this may not be a gimmee."

I agree. They are basically the same team which lost to OSU in Des Moines last year when OSU was a good team. They have another year. They may have crowd support and they have confidence "We know we can win this one." So said Evans, conference player of the year who has 18 double-doubles in 2008-09, scored in double figures 27 times and posted 20 games with 10 or more rebounds and averages over 16 pts per game.

On the plus side for us they rely a lot on Evans who will try to take over the game. Bill's defenses are particularly effective in such cases. And, we have the TWISTER SISTERS.
