    Car Goes Click Click Click...

Well I just was on my way home from the ISU vet hospital to Ankeny, when as I rounded the bend coming into Huxley I noticed that I had no radio, no clock, and all my gauges were reading nothing. As I slowed for the first light, my explorer died. It now goes click click click when I try to start it. What a fun day. Hmm, new alternator? or cataract surgery for the dog?

Hope is not a method. Soon is not a time.

That sucks. If you buy a new alternator, don't buy from NAPA because they will give you a guaranteed POS. Sorry to hear about your situation.

If you're somewhat handy, you can just replace the brushes in the alternator for next to nothing.......if the alternator is the problem.

Is your dog big enough that you could ride him to work?

Did you have trouble starting it before this happened?

My guess is if you're on cyclonefanatic asking for car advice you probably aren't the type of person who should be tinkering around under the hood... myself included.

Re: Car Goes Click Click Click...

I could probably do it myself but I'm too lazy, and my wife wants it done right the first time.

My dog actually is 100 pounds, but he's diabetic and blind so I dont' think he'd be much of a ride.

I've actually had no problems with the car until 2 months ago. I bought it new 6 years ago. 2 months ago the water pump went, then I needed new brakes and rotors, and I know I need new tires but I haven't bought them yet. I'm on the Internet looking for new ones right now.

Re: Car Goes Click Click Click...

Sounds like an alternator issue. A couple years ago, my wife's car had hers go out and mine did as well within a period of less than 10 days :(

Check the places that rebuild them. A lot of times it is less than buying a new one, and they replace all of the components in them.

Alternator or battery, I am guessing alternator.

My car did exactly the same thing when the alternator died. Just died at a stoplight.

My exact situation from last month.

No problems on a 2000 maxima, and then, alternator, ignition coils, tire, brakes, exhaust system, shocks, struts, idle sensor, alternator again.

At that point I gave up, and bought a new car. There is some INSANE deals to be had if you are buying new right now. You can just name your price if you have cash.
