    Aghanistan "Civilians" killed

I'm not really considering this as a "political" question, but I'm hoping that someone who has been there can comment on this.

Afghan police say victims of U.S. raid not militants

It seems to me that the first two target discriminators for US troops in determining "Civilian" versus "Militant" would be, A. Are they carrying an AK-47? and B. Are they shooting at you?

I realize that everyone there carries an AK-47 (which I think is...nuts), but I'm assuming if there is a call to stand down, the opposing group can either put their weapons on the ground, or start shooting.

Just imagining some Iowa Dad saying, "Yep, officer, it was jest me 'n muh boys standin' around shootin' the breeze, with our automatic weapons..."

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.

In that case, it's darned near impossible to discover the truth as to what happened. I find it interesting, though, that the Afghan Police parsed their words. It makes me tend to believe that the father and sons WERE militants, but had relatives with influence, which basically forces the ANP commander to say what he did. But reading his words, there is a lot unsaid in between the lines, and the condemnation of the raid is very faint indeed.

I don't know........if I was living there, I imagine I would prefer to have an AK-47 as opposed to the alternative of being unarmed.
