ISU in the Big12 Tournament
This is the most exciting time of year for ISU women basketball fans. What Bill Fennelly is able to do in the Big12 Tournament is beyond belief.
Since the conception of the Big12, Bill Fennelly has led his Cyclones to more Big12 tourney games (30) and wins (20) than any other team. The Cyclones are second only to Oklahoma in Big12 tournament winning percentage (.667) and have only lost their first game of the tournament once (includes byes). Iowa State has earned its highest seed since 2001, for the 2009 Big12 Tournament and at the #3 spot will take on the winner of the #6 Texas vs. #11 Missouri, Friday at 7:30 PM.
ISU will likely face the #6 seed and 23rd ranked Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns, though dangerous, are coming off a 1-5 losing streak to end the season. Four of those loses are to ranked teams, and two of those ranked teams are teams that ISU already beat this season. The Longhorns did beat ISU by three points in Ames, to hand the Cyclones their only home loss of the season.
As always in a tournament, upsets happen and no one knows that better than the #11 seed Missouri. Last year, Missouri became the first #12 seed to win a game in the Big12 tourney with 70-64 overtime victory over the Oklahoma Sooner's. Though there are no guaranties, Iowa State's chances to make it to the semi-finals for the third time in three years seems likely if Missouri can upset Texas. ISU has already defeated Missouri twice this year, with an average margin of victory of 19 points.
Things only get tougher as the Cyclones will likely face Baylor in the semi-finals. ISU had a 68-57 lose at Baylor earlier this season, but on a neutral court and with Baylor possibly missing their best player, the game will be up for grabs. Danielle Wilson, Baylor's center is rumored to have torn her ACL which means she will miss the rest of the season, however, Baylor has yet to make an official announcement.
If Iowa State can make it all the way, it will likely face Texas A&M or Oklahoma. Kansas State might have some things to say early on, but it is unlikely they will make it to the title game. A&M did defeat Oklahoma in College Station, but A&M has been playing inconsistent basketball all year. If Iowa State has to play Oklahoma, it will essentially be a home game for the Sooners.
Iowa State has shown that they can play and defeat anyone in the country. With that good of a team, coached by Bill Fennelly, Iowa State has a great shot at making a run deep in the Big12 tournament.

Re: ISU in the Big12 Tournament
I like your predicitions. That could come to pass. Texas is still a little mystery. Texas has a deep and talented team - I wouldn't be surprised for them to be in the finals or to lose the first round game. More was expected of GG as coach - perhaps she doesn't have the chemistry for this team.

Looking back I am almost happy Texas beat us. I feel this will give us the extra push to win against them. I don't see MIZZOU giving them much of a fight.
