I am usually a glass half-full kind of guy

But I just can't get fired up this year for football. The defense has me extremely concerned.

The good thing is, alot of the offenses will be worse....

The bad thing is, Oklahoma State won't... That game could be U-G-L-Y

Damn, you had to get me thinking about her.

As for the OP, I get fired up for football regardless of the talent on the field. Granted, it's more fun when we win but I have fun either way.

We have a rookie head coach. He's going to make mistakes early on in his career. The staff is good overall, but I'm not excited at the prospects of watching Rhoads learn the ropes for a few years. Nothing against him, but there's a natural growth process he will go through. It's difficult to have your first head coaching job in a conference like the Big 12.

The defense is not going to be fun this year.

THe good part is we can go into the season with realistic expectations and hope for better. Then again you have some on here that will expect 6-7 wins and will go away disappointed.

Re: I am usually a glass half-full kind of guy

Actually I'm pretty excited about the PR era. If you would've asked me that when he was hired I probably would've said 'yeah, right'. But the guy's kinda infectious. It's become obvious that he breathes and lives the Cyclones which Chizik never did. And PR assembled an amazing staff with a lot of potential...something Chizik didn't do either.

I'm not expecting huge achievements for 2009 but I really think the future is bright with PR at the helm and I really believe good things will come and probably come sooner than we're expecting.

Wished I had the same optimism for basketball but right now I just don't. Please prove me wrong.

Re: I am usually a glass half-full kind of guy

Is it wrong that I am excited? I don't expect us to win all that many games, but I do expect to see some creativity. I don't expect PR to just lose every game the same way. I imagine we will see trick plays, blitzes from everywhere, and a lot of chances to be taken. I think PR realizes we have nothing to lose, and that makes us dangerous. I like it.

Re: I am usually a glass half-full kind of guy

The 2 things that really excite me going into this season are.....

    1) PR and the new staff we have onboard (the OC & DC are the real deal).

    2) The fact that JP, PR and this new staff kept almost every single athlete from the previous coaching staff. Can you imagine how bad it would be going into next season losing most of the young talent that decided to stay? I think we're actually sitting pretty good as a whole and the guys that stayed have a chip on their shoulder and something to prove, so that's what really excites me the most.

Will that translate into a bowl game or conference champs? Probably not.....but I'm still excited to see these guys play.

We could have lost every game last year and I would still be fired up for next year...I like to call it the Cubs fan complex. Plus tailgating always makes it worth it, bring on the beer, burgers, and sun.
