USF turned down again.....AND AGAIN!!!!! AND YET AGAIN!!!!!

I hope this does not mean that Ash will be contacted by USF but i would bet that it happens.

Colorado assistant Brown turned down what was being offered as a Co-Defensive Coordinator job - he was not offered the job outright which is probably why he turned it down.

So obviously, with USF not hiring a coach yet, were not out of the woods with our Chris Ash just yet. I really hope he stays but could completely understand if offered the position him going. But one thing strikes me as odd, i've never seen a program with the success of USF get turned down by now 3 defensive assistants to become a DC.

Somethings just not right down there......and we hope our beloved Ash stays here at ISU at least for a couple years and builds our secondary back into the what he had created here before - which was a great secondary!!!

That is kind of odd, but why are they offering only a Co-Def job? If they have one guy in place just let him do the job and stop getting humiliated every day by being turned down.

People might be getting word through the grapevine that Leavitt isn't a good coach to work for.

The same happened at UNL with one of their coaches - he turned USF job down. That is three Big 12 schools in a week. Nine more to go.n

Has anyone considered the age of our new DC and the possibility that Ash may step into that role in a couple years here at ISU.

    Its a thought.

Not just a thought but a very distinct possibility. Only problem i saw in one of Burnhams interviews he said "i only got about 8-10 good years left in coaching" i doubt that Chris will wait around for 10 years only to become a DC. Right now is the natural progression for him to become a DC in the next 3-5 years and do that well for a couple of years and get a chance at a head coaching job around 45.

There seems to be a natural progression though from being a Secondarys coach to becoming a Defensive Coordinator. Lets hope that USF finds their guy soon, i would hate to lose Coach Ash - but then again, maybe people are starting to understand Coach Leavitt and know that although its a great position to be in for recruiting etc, the job itself is not that desirable because of his methods.

Coach Ash, we want you to stay and continue building us back to where you left us!!!!!

Leavitt should take a look at bring Dan McCarney back as DC or at least look at Dale McCartney.

Exciting times. We actually have a solid coaching staff, if they do not leave for another job. If we have problems winning games, it must be the talent and the cupboard was bare.

    Re: USF turned down again.....

I understand that a coordinator position is a step up from a position coach, but whether it is Ash or somone else who eventually fills the co-DC position there, it wouldn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy taking a job where I am the 4th or 5th choice at a place where nobody else seems to want to coach due to chemistry or internal issues.

I give JP credit for running the ISU athletic department searches as secretly as he does. This type of situation is not good for USF football.

From what I heard, McCarney hated working with Leavitt, since Leavitt is a Bill Synder clone (I mean same coaching styles, not an acutal clone) Dan Mac gets along a lot better with Urban Myer.

Not to mention, the DC job at Florida SHOULD be open next year...

Where's Charlie Strong going? And wouldn't Chuck Heater be next in line, since he's the Assistant DC?

so what your saying is that we should develop a "Cover your Ash" plan in case he leaves?

No where yet, but it would be pretty tragic if he didn't get a head job next year... Just because Heater is the assistant DC it doesn't mean he is next in line, it's just a title...

Yep, like assistant HC. McCarney should be in line for a DC position somewhere. Although he may not be interested in leaving Florida.
