Besides the fact that most of the team has put on a lot of muscle during the off season. Give them time.

New coach or not... it is not a secret that we are slow and weak. Hopefully this gets handled in the off season.

I would be in support of a real S&C guy for basketball. Since McD took over our guys have been noticeably weak compared to the other Big 12 teams. Part of that is the high player turnover.

Re: Time to get new strength and conditioning coach for basketball

We are just pathetic at rebounding. We have ony four people who know what they are doing to get to the ball in order to rebound: CB, JVB, Booze, and maybe BP. The rest are flat footed , running back for the hills, not watching the shot, just worthless. Perhaps S&C might help some. Maybe moving more might help even more.

Re: Time to get new strength and conditioning coach for basketball

OK, maybe it's time to get basketball it's own S&C person. Just looking at the ISU website, FB has two guys (Chizik had 3) and there are two guys for "Olympic" sports: Moser and Link. I assume that they lift at the Rec? That's two guys for a bunch of athletes in a bunch of different sports. You'd think that since the basketball teams are getting the new facility with their own weightroom, Moser and Link would be spread a little thin having to be two places at once. You'd think that GMac and BF will be able to hire their own guy to work that weightroom.

I do agree that our guys look real thin. A big part of it is that most of the guys are so young that they haven't been able to build up as much as upperclassmen have, but I don't know that AT is a lot bigger than he showed up as and he's been here three years.

I've been saying this for a long time. Our guys don't have the upper body strength to bang in the Big XII.

Look at Sherron Collins and Dominique Sutton, then look at our guards.

The new BB complex is going to have a weight room. So maybe, just maybe the BB teams can share their own S&C person.

That's what I'm hoping comes out of the practice facility. Their own S&C coaches would work wonders if they have a pulse and know what they're doing.

Re: Time to get new strength and conditioning coach for basketball

Moser does a great job with the facilities he has to work with. The coach is not the problem here. I'm sure we are the only team in the Big 12 that has the bball team lift in the same room as the golf and track teams. Texas A&M has bigger guys than us. Unless we recruit bigger athletes to start with, they aren't going to get dramatically bigger. It would be nice if they could get a bit quicker though.

Collins has to be strong enough so he can gain interest from janitors!

Re: Time to get new strength and conditioning coach for basketball

Who was LE's strength and conditioning coach? I remember hearing that Tinsley was very weak when he arrived, but by the time he left, he was almost benching 300 lbs. Horton, Stevie Johnson, and Fizer were all ripped as well. Every Big 12 team that we match up against looks a lot bigger.

    Can he improve our vertical?
