Cyclone Hockey Player Suiting Up for the USA!

Hey Folks, Just thought you'd all like to know about some BIG NEWS at Cyclone Hockey. Junior Forward Allen Raushel will be leaving on Friday morning to participate in the World University Games as a member of the Team USA University Selects.

He'll be in Torino, Italy until Jan 27th competing against the World's best College Hockey players. The US is going to face stiff competition in Pool B. They start off against powerhouse Canada, followed by a tough Slovakia team, then it will be Russia, and finally South Korea.

Allen Raushel has gained a reputation for coming through in the clutch. Gaining the nickname "Mr. Clutch" in local media. He has 2 OT winners this season as well as numerous shoot out winning goals. No doubt, his ability to perform under pressure is a major reason Chad Cassel put him on the squad.

We are very proud of Allen's great accomplishment and Coach Al Murdoch will be joining him as Scouting Coordinator for Team USA. We'll keep you up to date on Allen and his teammates as they take on the best in the world.

Allen will return to the team after his stint with our Nation's Best, so make sure you get out to the Ames/ISU Ice Arena to see World Class Player Allen Raushel and the rest of the Cyclones as they take on the best in the ACHA.

-[I]The World University Games is the second largest international competition next to the Olympics. Team USA is made up of ACHA Players from schools around the nation, selected by National Team coaches and US Olympic Committee Officials. Yeah, Doc Murdoch talked about that with us last weekend. Pretty sweet... He's going with him too, and we're getting an interim head coach, who we also met. He seems like he'll get the job done while Murdoch is away.

Re: Cyclone Hockey Player Suiting Up for the USA!

Team USA University Selects are made up of the very best American born ACHA players. We've had several players over the years on the team. In 2005, the team played in Austria and they finished 3-3, which isn't too bad. This year, they are hoping to medal with the guys they've got. Should be exciting to see.
We'll keep updating Allen's status and Team USA's status throughout the 2 weeks he is gone!

Happy for the kid yet disappointed we won't be at full strength when we face Oklahoma in a couple weeks.

Re: Cyclone Hockey Player Suiting Up for the USA!

Not to worry! Raushel is currently 4th on the team in scoring. While he is one of the best guys on the ice week in and week out, the cyclones will still have Jayson Peterson and Pete Majkozak who are in the top 10 nationally with 20 and 22 goals respectively. We also expect outstanding goaltending from both Senior stand out Trent Baker and freshman surprise Christian "The Swede" Johanson.

Oklahoma will also be without their top player, Danny Force. So it should still be a great and exciting game!

Re: Cyclone Hockey Player Suiting Up for the USA!

Wow, good for Raushel. That's an awesome opportunity! I'm glad to hear OU will be missing their guy, too. Is he going to be on Team USA as well, or will he be missing for other reasons?

Wow, there is so much stuff going on at Iowa State on the weekend of the 26th/27th. Am I the only one having a hard time deciding what all to go to? The big choice is a highly-ranked matchup in hockey versus a highly-ranked matchup in wrestling...
What to do, what to do?

Now that I look at it, it's funny that we wrestle OU on Friday and OSU on Sunday.

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Thought I dont follow hockey as close as some of you, this is great news to hear. Its a shame that this program doesnt get the recognition that I think it should. But with a smaller market audience than football and basketball, its understandable. But it really makes it exciting for the FanAddict outing that we have planned. Good thinking ISUFan22.

Danny Force, the OU player in question will be joining Team USA after Ohio stand out Travis Preble broke his leg.

The Roster has been finalized and the guys take off on Friday for Maryland and then its off to Turin on Monday! GO USA!

Here is a link to the pdf of the Team USA Media Guide. This might give you a better idea of the size and importance of this event.
